Now they do a good job of filtering and virus scanning there's no need to change. My advice is pick an ISP that offers free connection and modem (if you need one). Once you are connected, who cares what your ISP's name is.You have such a simplistic view of everything. ISP _does_ make a difference. There are a huge number of different factors like the amount of bandwidth available, their oversubscription rate, port throttling, added value services and a host of other things that can make the difference between one ISP and another qite significant. Whilst you might not use the ISP helpdesk, the larger proportion of customers make use of them quite regularly and there's a core group that treat them like their own technical support centre to call when their printer won't turn on, when they can't change the font in word etc etc. We have several customers with well in excess of 150 logged support calls (not counting the logged ones) and most of the things they call up about have nothing to do with their internet (hell I think some of em are just lonely). |

Asked them via email (both tech support and sales) a couple of questions several times over several weeks and never received an answer. I decided that if they couldn't be bothered responding when they were after new customers, what hope was there of help when they had my money? I stayed with Clear until broadband became available in my area, and changed to Xtra. I've had no problems and the couple of times when I've needed a question answered ( no I wasn't just lonely!) they have been really good. I do agree that their plans need modifying. A 2Gb limit on their Discovery plan would be a lot better that the 1Gb it is at the moment. That is the only thing that would make me consider changing at present. |
