418300 2006-01-05 04:50:00 No, it is not to stop noises, though that might be an indirect outcome in some instances.

As I understand it, the intention is to reduce vibrations at the line termination point to prevent work-hardening and consequent stress fracture of the lines. I guess harmonic cycling could start up in winds of appropriate strength and direction and if the line hit a harmonic resonance that could be both mechanically stressful, and probably extra noisy to boot. I'm not up on the engineering details for transmission lines, my expertise is in an allied field.

Where the heck is Godfather when we need him? I'm pretty sure that he will have a more accurate explanation.

Cheers

418301 2006-01-05 05:29:00 They will be Aeolian Vibration Dampers
A picture is here:

They reduce the vibration from wind effects on the line (Aeolian is derived from the Greek God of Winds, Aeolus).

Vibration effects are damaging on all components including the conductor itself.

418304 2006-01-05 08:04:00 Can we be sure they are not the Dulhunty 4D Vibration Damper? Cicero (40)
418305 2006-01-05 08:17:00 I could tell you but then I would have to charge you. godfather (25)
418306 2006-01-05 08:59:00 I think if you look at rule 7632,section 4,you will find it is not on to charge. Cicero (40)
418307 2006-01-05 09:42:00 Sorry Cicero, but thats the wrong rule.

You need to refer to the appropriate TPSS for that information and the level of charges are not subject to limitations of any kind, or even discussed.

Please forward your order number, I already know your address for delivery. Or collection.

418308 2006-01-05 10:11:00 Suffice to say,the cheque is in the mail, in an amount appropriate to the information. Cicero (40)
