418175 2006-01-04 10:17:00 I'm seriously considering signing up with slingshot as their current bribe is a good one. I've had enough of Xtra and their 1GB limit. Anyone got any experience good or bad with them? lemalem (9539)
418176 2006-01-04 11:23:00 Which bribe are you refering to? Slingshot is not really a reputable ISP in NZ, by the way. Have you checked out any packages offered by Orcon?

Cheers :)

Time for some more feedback/analysis of your English - as you ask for.

To say Slingshot is "not really a reputable ISP" is more critical than I believe you intended.
In fact, in some circumstances it could be seen as downright defamatory - though I expect you'd be forgiven in this example.

Saying that Slingshot is not reputable infers that it does not comply with generally accepted standards of good business. In other words, it is "disreputable".
And that is an adjective no business would be happy with. It has unsavoury implications which I'm sure you didn't mean.

I leave you to check those meanings in your dictionary & decide upon a better word/words to convey what you intended.

418179 2006-01-04 17:13:00 Been with Slingshot since those horrible dial-up days; now using Slingshot broadband.

Happy with the service, happy with the connection.

Well, as happy as a broadband user in NZ can be, anyway.

Why? What did they do - you know she is CallPlus as well?

Thank you! Thank you very much Laura! My English has not been criticised for ages! On a second thought, what I meant in my previous statement was in comparison with most other NZ ISPs, Slingshot's reputation is not as good them (I think I am right?) . Thus, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone . How about, "Slingshot is an infamous ISP in NZ"? With regards to Pctek's comment "she is CallPlus as well?", do Slingshot and CallPlus belong to the same company?

Cheers :)

P . S . Thanks Laura again! :D

James, that is the second time in a week I have seen you say negative things about an ISP . The last one was KOL .

While there are better ISPs than these two it isn't a good idea to go running around saying they are not reputable, especially if you have not even been a customer of theirs .

For your information I found KOL to be quite satisfactory when I used them for dialup recently and would recommend them to someone who was after very cheap internet . They were not perfect but more than adequate for my needs at their price .

Regarding Slingshot, I have not used them but have heard of many satisfied customers . All ISPs have some dissatisfied customers and Slingshot would no doubt have theirs but calling them not reputable is way over the top .

It might be handy to tell James that if he just includes the words "In my opinion" or "without predjudice" in the first line or two of his messages, it might not lead to lawyers or guys with clubs and whips calling upon him at his home 3 am .

Not as bad as calling them "infamous"
