| 684225 | 2008-07-01 10:20:00 | I have Windows XP on my computer. The words under the icons used to have the background wrapped around them. Now a blue rectangle has appeared behind each of the icon word descriptions and I cant find a way to get it back to the previous appearance. I can change the colour of the rectangles (with the words in) but cannot get rid of the rectangles by using: Control panel > Display > Appearnace ...etc. I have been told that it relates to a windows 98 bug and can be corrected by Control Panel > Display > Appearance tab > Click to change Windows and buttons to "Classic style" then change it back to "Windows XP" style. Then click "Apply". I have tried this and my desktop remains with the blue rectangles around the words under the icons. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I get rid of the rectanges Thanks MartynF |

| 684226 | 2008-07-01 10:33:00 | Welcome to PressF1 :) To fix this, go Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance > Settings button > Visual Effects tab and put a tick beside Use drop shadows for icon labels on the Desktop and then click Apply. It is possible Windows has changed this because your system was having performance issues. Do you have sufficient RAM installed? |
