684205 2008-07-01 08:21:00 Hi there

My new boss is not that PC literate, and while he can operate his email program here in NZ (using Outlook) Ive been asked if he can gain access to his email while he is away on his monthly trip to China.

His business has its own address, like john@mybusiness.co.nz, is there a way he can view his email on this account (easily) while overseas.

Ive thought about getting him an gmail account, but only if Outlook can send a copy of any incoming email to a gmail, without deleting it from his base account. If so, where in Outlook do you go to arrange this. I dont use Outlook here, thus the questions.

Another thing, would he be better getting something like a Blackberry, or using an internet Cafe' while overseas.

Thanks

John in Mosgiel.

684206 2008-07-01 08:25:00 You can add gmail to Outlook either by using pop or Imap (Imap being the better option).

That way the folders from Gmail will come through to Outlook, once you add the Gmail account. (ie: Whatever folders you see in Gmail, you'll see in Outlook)

So, once or if you delete the emails in Outlook they'll also disappear in Gmail.

This is how you setup Gmail In Outlook 2007 (mail.google.com)

It'll probably be the same for previous versions of Outlook

684207 2008-07-01 08:26:00 Where does his domain email go to for downloading.
If it is an ISP mailbox then he can log into the ISP webmail with the username and password for it.
Have a look in Outlook - Tools/Email accounts
View or change existing and next
Click change for the mail account setup and have a look at what is showing for Incoming POP3 server.

684208 2008-07-01 08:31:00 Internet Cafe in China? It would probably be tightly regulated by the firewall of China - unless you are talking about "overseas" in general?

Cheers :)

684209 2008-07-01 08:59:00 Do you run an email exchange server? I've seen outlook online at some businesses but have know idea how it works, meaning you can log into your outlook remotely. gary67 (56)
684210 2008-07-01 10:14:00 This depends on how he gets his current mail, direct from his ISP using POP, domain name server or onsite mail server .

Other issue will the boss have easy access to an internet connection while overseas using laptop or will this be via internet cafe .

All factors to consider .

PM me if you want . I'm in your local area and a quick phone call could sort it out quickly .

PS: hows the Video site going?
