| 683586 | 2008-06-29 07:27:00 | Hi Team I have a Kodak CX6230 camera that was taken out of service a few years back and the software uninstalled from my computer. Recently, and in my absence, it had fresh batteries installed and was used to take photos and a movie at a family function. I thought I could just plug in a USB lead and communicate direct to take the data off as I do with other cameras but for some reason Kodak does not allow direct access without their software so I need to reinstall it. When I originally tried to install it after purchase, the CD version wasn't usable on W2k so I had to download V3.2 and I thought I had that on my computer, however the exe turned out to be no more than an installer program that would retrieve the main software from Kodak's server. Needless to say that link is now dead and since the later versions are bloated and very invasive I really don't want to download V7 etc. So, does anybody have an Easyshare CD with V3.2 or higher (but not too high) that they could copy for me please, or an alternative solution for accessing the files? I am aware that I can take the memory stick out and have it read, but that is a temporary solution and I'd like to get the full functionality back for future use. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

As far as invasive goes, that is mainly the checking for new versions stuff which does not have to be installed. There are several options when you install it and the main one you want is the camera software drivers, the rest you just uncheck. There is other software that can read the Kodak cameras, it is not only Kodak software that can read them. My Epson Easy Photo Print software sees my Kodak camera no problem as does 2-3 other programs I have here. |

Thanks for that, I'll try some other programs, but being a USB connection I fully expected it to be detected as a removable drive. Later last night my daughter gave me her new Sony camera to take some photos off and it popped up as a drive as soon as I connected it. Kodak must have some sort of interface hardware/software between the USB and the memory chip. I see Jaycar has a Multimedia card reader for just $23.90 so I might get one of those. | 683591 | 2008-06-29 23:38:00 | Billy I have a Kodak Z740 here, it brings up a drive letter when I plug it into USB and Turn it on to Picture View. My old LS443 used to also, as do my Canon cameras. Check you have it turned on once you plug it in to USB. I have a lot of clients I take photos off for and print and I have not come across one that does not show up in My Computer as a drive. I do also use a Sandisk Card Reader which takes any cards I need to read. |

PJ Thanks PJ, but I already have those disks because the CX6230 was a warranty replacement for a CX4200 that they didn't want to repair. Problem is the earlier software won't run under W2K and the only viable computer I have below that is Old Faithful on W98 (original) which won't support USB without adding hardware and I don't want to add it because a card reader would be far cheaper. Adding hardware to the old girl would be like doing a heart-lung transplant on your great-grandmother: technically possible, but the old girl might never recover from the shock. She's in her twilight years now as a print server and miscellaneous email receptacle. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 683593 | 2008-06-30 09:25:00 | re the Kodak software I'm not too upto date with this stuff but it just stopped working for me on my old 98 comp and nothing was available as an update on the Kodak website (not even the originsal software) and uninstalling\reinstalling was a no go. Card reader seemed the way to go, its quick, simple, cheap, and a a bit of future proofing with the ability to read multiple card types in case of future camera upgrades. | PPp (9511) | ||

| 683595 | 2008-06-30 21:33:00 | What I do is take the card out of the kodak camera and stick it into my newer camera and use it to upload. Kodak Easyshare and all its horrors thereby avoided. Though I am going to buy a card reader. Also, I have v 4.04, PM me if you would like me to mail you a copy. It's every bit as annoying as the earlier versions though, and quite often fails to display newly uploaded photos - you have to restart the computer to get it behaving again. I've basically stopped using it altogether - I've got Ulead photo explorer (free from Giveawayoftheday) which is a good organiser, and PS Elements for editing, since its organiser is also pretty annoying - not as bad as Easyshare tho |
