420310 2006-01-12 05:32:00 This has been puzzling me for several days. So can anyone satisfy my curiosity?

Reading our "fine print" (The most users ever online) shows 844 at 2.51am on 5th January.

We can assume only a few of them were NZers at that hour. Also that for most overseas viewers it was some time on Wednesday 4th January.

All I can think of is that for many it would've been the first day back at work after the New Year break.
So does that mean they're reading PF1 on the boss's machine? Did they crash their own in the holidays? Was there a new virulent virus then?
Or was the northern hemisphere weather so bad they hoped we'd bring them virtual sunshine?

Or is it just that the Googlebots have bred over the holidays?

A minor matter, to be sure.
But intriguing to speculate...
