2006-01-09 01:28:00 | Reminds me of this classic thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) from the PressF1 archives - ah, I remember it fondly. Funnily enough, I thought I'd have a look at the MB site now, and by george has it changed! I'll always wonder if it was the constructive criticism from the PF1'ers that got the improvements actioned! :p | pixeldust (6619) | |
2006-01-09 01:58:00 | This one (www.airresourcemanagement.co.nz) is pretty bad - not in the sense of being garish or hard to read, but just totally amateurish for a professional organisation. Plus, the images don't display in Firefox for some reason - and they admit it and warn you, instaed of doing something about it! :yuck: | Tony (4941) | |
2006-01-09 05:09:00 | That's why you only offer large files over bittorrentPlease tell me you aren't serious. :p Bit Torrent is not known widely enough to the average internet user to be practical at this stage - and the vast majority of people prefer an HTTP or FTP download if possible anyway. If you have a small site then shared hosting offers a much better service for a fraction of the price and if you have a large business site then a dedicated server would cost about the same as one of those Telecom business plans but you get a 10Mbit or 100Mbit port with 1000GB - 1200GB monthly transfer on a good rented server (which you still have to buy if you use a broadband connection). Anyway, back to the topic of terrible company websites there is a book available which pulls apart poorly designed websites and explains why certain elements don't work well together but I can't think of the name off the top of my head. :)

2006-01-09 05:19:00 | The TV3 website is right up there, only because I can no longer view it without having the CPU cycles hit 100%. Next best is Mitre10 (www.mitre10.co.nz) which I can only presume displays in a more sensible fashion with IE

2006-01-09 06:11:00 | Xtra because it takes ages to load and has all the bloatware. also telecom, you cant even open a link in a new window, its all javascript.

2006-01-09 06:39:00 | I actually liked Xtra's site before they redesigned it. My parents still have Xtra as their home page so I see (and curse) it whenever I use their computer. On the odd occasion that one of their main stories catches my eye, habit makes me middle click the link & I curse them for using flash when it doesn't open the link in a new tab. I also used to use it as a quick reference for what is on TV, but they removed the tv listings link from their main page.

2006-01-09 06:51:00 | When Xtra first lunched there new redesigned website, I was unsure of it (& I sort of did not like it), but now I dont mine it. I dont think the new TVNZ website will every grow on me .
