684495 2008-07-02 05:08:00 the vista version was purchased as an upgrade offer from the OEM version of XP and as such it's license states it must be installed on the machine to which that copy of XP belongs, which I have done as a dual boot set-up. So that pc has 2 copies of windows ( still mainly using XP 6 months later too... )

The x64 bit windows could be installed on the 3rd pc, but to be honest I regret buying it, seemed like a good Idea at the time but turned out to be a bit of an orphan with poor driver support and not great backwards compatability, particularly with games which is the main purpose of the pc. Also strictly speaking it doesn't "belong" to this actual hardware

Of the 3 XP home is by far the easiest to run games under, with Vista doing ok and x64 pro trailing along behind.

Anyway this thread was mostly a frustrated rant at microsoft, there is no way to legally do what I want without spending a fortune, guess I'll make do with what I have and possibly buy an other vista uprade at a later date as the x64 bit pro at least qualifies for an upgrade.
