683874 2008-06-30 11:06:00 Laptop ram is usually SODIMM I think, not normal DDR Ram.

You may have to check it on the Toshiba site (how much it supports),

Shut it down and check the ram thats in it. It should say what speed it is.

And whether its 2100 or whatever

683876 2008-06-30 19:29:00 Go to Crucials's website here (http://crucial.com/) and let it do a scan it will tell you what the RAM is gary67 (56)
683877 2008-06-30 20:26:00 OS is 32bit Vista Business supports up 4gb

Although it supports 4GB, Vista 32bit won't be able to address all 4GB, typically between 3GB and 3.5GB.

683878 2008-06-30 20:34:00 According to Toshiba the laptop takes DDR2-667 SODIMM (PC2-5300) stormdragon (6013)
683879 2008-06-30 21:08:00 Vista may support up to 4 GB, it doesnt mean the laptop will.

How many slots are in it?

Does it say it supports 4 GB?

Wrong way around Speedy! :p

The laptop will support 4GB - just check the specs of the model online.

It's Vista 32bit that will only see and use 3.25GB.

Buying more than 3 GB is a bit of a waste of money, unless you want to dual boot a linux OS or something, and sometimes running 4GB of ram with a 32bit Windows OS can cause instabilities.

But having 2+2 is better than 1 + 2 if your motherboard supports dual channel, isn't it? I guess not everyone will notice a difference, but anyone that works with apps that tend to use lots of memory (games, multimedia work etc.) should see it.

683882 2008-07-01 08:39:00 Thats if laptops know what dual channel is or means

But dual channel does help it does speeds things up a little

683883 2008-07-01 09:03:00 The specs for that lappie can be seen here (skcsnap.edtech.co.nz). It does mention in the small print of the downloadable PDF that not all 4gigs will be recognised (depending upon system configuration).

That chipset supports dual channel RAM. The type you need is DDR2 667 (PC5300) SODIMM - Example (www.pricespy.co.nz)
