419959 2006-01-11 23:43:00 Vodafone is increasing the cost of an opt-in service, to a small group of subscribers, by $0.10 per optional message for these people.

Telecom is increasing the price of basically an essential service, across the entire country, by $2.35 per month.

Bit of a difference.

Well you can always "Opt out" and get a cell phone and pay more percall.. By the way has your property rates gone up, Sky TV, Fuel, Food over the past year??

Suggested reason: To see if people will pay it?

You most likely have hit the nail on the head :)

419962 2006-01-12 03:20:00 Telecom suck at international texting, they have nowhere as many countries to text to than vodafone so therefore it could be argued that voda have a monopoly on overseas texting. Vodafone are using this fact to their advantage. I am sure there are many voda customers are purely with them because of this fact. For them 10c or 50% increase is a HUGE!! increase.

And even though this only applies to prepaid customers, if they were to change to a plan with vodafone then they have to change their phone numbers, so they are screwed either way.

Changing fom telecom to vodafone, or back not only means a change of phone number, but a change of hardware.. This applies to prepay and contracted users.

I think sam is talking about moving from vodaphone prepay to a vodaphone plan

419965 2006-01-12 04:06:00 I think sam is talking about moving from vodaphone prepay to a vodaphone planIt was possible to change from vodafone contract to prepay or back without a change of number. Cant say if it still is permissable personthingy (1670)
419966 2006-01-12 05:03:00 I dont know if possible now but about year or 2 ago friend on voda prepaid (spending about $70 to $80 per month) figured plan with same handset was best way to go but didnt count on having to get a new number (different simcard I think). So my point is if someone on prepaid making intl texts wants to avoid the 50% increase by changing to plan also have to consider getting a new number - unless voda have changed their policy. sam m (517)

419968 2006-01-13 19:59:00 Those You Choose plans on Vodafone are brilliant!

I was on the Motormouth Plan (200 anytime minutes to Vodafone mobiles) but switched to the Get 60 or something which means for the same price ($40) I can make 60 minutes of calls, any time, to any number in NZ. This includes 027 and landlines! Then I threw (for an extra 10 bux) 1000 txts to 021s on top of it!

Best money-saving Ive done in a long time. Last months phone bill was only $86 and this includes my $15 for GPRS Data usage! Previosu 3 months it had been between $120 and $135
