419103 2006-01-08 00:50:00 I trust neither than machines nor the people. Assume the worst and you'll probably be right - or pleasantly surprised.. pctek (84)
419104 2006-01-08 01:11:00 I'll go along with Graham, I just don't understand the question :) Terry Porritt (14)
419105 2006-01-08 01:12:00 I thought we already did. Artificial respirators and dialysis machines... bob_doe_nz (92)
419106 2006-01-08 01:17:00 I trust nothing, I just take my chances. Metla (12)
419107 2006-01-08 01:20:00 I just don't understand the question :)Same here. But I especially don't trust instruments. I mean when I drive along the motorway my speedometer is constantly wrong, cos it tells me I'm travelling at a 150k's when I know I'm only going 100. Greg (193)

That's why there are laboratories that calibrate and certify measuring instruments in conformance with the appropriate national/international standards. Never believe what a measuring instrument says without first checking it against a standard.

But what is a machine? There is the simple lever, then the clockwork motor from my old Mecanno set is a machine,

Much more detail is required in order to try to give a meaningful response.

419109 2006-01-08 01:42:00 I am with Terry as well, there is no line to define what the difference is between a machine and and instrument.

Is a hypodermic an instrument or a machine?
Is a pacemaker a machine or an instrument?
Is aircraft radar a machine or an instrument?
Is a linear accellerator used in radiation treatment an instrument or a machine?

In the above, I suspect they are all both depending on your viewpoint.

We sometimes trust our lives to all, willingly or not.

419111 2006-01-08 01:52:00 I wonder if the post was really started by BT
It is not like him to post such a stupid dumb question that nobody can understand.
And they are actually having a conference in the US about this subject, must be very satisfying solving the important issues in the world.
