| 684469 | 2008-07-02 00:25:00 | Hi all, Well the computer no longer works the way it should. Has developed a problem on boot and will not load the desktop icons. It does show the bacground image and "yes" it has an informative message "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" ( such nice polite people) "Send error report" "Don't send error report". I probable should tell you all about my computer but think it is most likely irrelevant as it looks like a Windows problem. I am running XP home on this computer with Nod32 virus software. I have Gooogled the problem and still have not been able to find a fix which down grades the computers usefullness to scrap. Shame really as it was working fine yesterday. Im sure Microsoft would like me to upgrade to Vista that would fix everything. Anyway I've done the boot in safe mode with no joy..same problem. I would as a last resort re-format the hard drive and install Windows but do you think I can find the......Disk? No. I'm hoping some one out there has the answer for me. If you can help I'm all ears as this looks like a problem that does not look easy to fix. |

| 684470 | 2008-07-02 00:35:00 | Welcome to PressF1. Does the task manager work? (Ctrl+Alt+Del) If it does, can you restart Windows Explorer from there? (File -> New Task -> Run - type in explorer.exe) Another thing that would be useful, if you are able to, is posting a HijackThis log. In that same run box - if you can't get Windows Explorer to run - type in www.google.com and press enter - it should bring up Internet Explorer and Google. Do a search for Trend Micro HijackThis (like that, same spaces etc) and the first link should be the one to download HJT. Install it, do a scan, save the logfile and post the result here. |
