684228 2008-07-01 11:29:00 Hi
interested in purchasing the Nvidia 9600GT 512mb card, i look for this on google, trademe, pricespy there are all sorts of brands with all sorts of prices. brands such as asus, msi, albatron, XFX making them. i thought nVidia was the only one to make nvidia cards. or nvidia makes the gpu but rest body is made by different brands? whats the story guys.

684229 2008-07-01 11:59:00 nVidia design and manufacture the GPU.
They also make a reference card for other manufacturers to use/copy if they want.
Asus, MSI, XFX etc all make graphics cards using GPUs from nVidia, and also ATI/AMD.
Just as with mainboards, nVidia, VIA, Intel, AMD all make the chipsets that control everything but the manufacturers listed above actually produce the boards with everything put together.
They each of course make their 'adjustments & tweaks' to the cards and mainboards and say they are better than the rest. :D

684230 2008-07-01 12:41:00 Just stick with one of the main brands with a good warranty and buy from a good N.Z. shop and if you don't overclock then just get the cheapest that meets those things. And make sure you have good case cooling as well. memphis (2869)
684231 2008-07-01 21:02:00 IMO, Asus and Leadtek are the best brands of Nvidia based cards to buy.

Asus and Gigabyte IMO, have seen no end of issues with Leadtek cards, they make the Winfast brand, and their motherboards run a close 2nd to ECS.

so is it Asus and Gigabyte that have the issues, or is it Leadtek and ECS which have the issues?

Leadtek and ECS are very bad.

Asus and Gigabyte are among the best if not the best - also both have 3 year warranties as pctek said.

684236 2008-07-01 22:34:00 also XFX have a good rep and excellent lifetime transferable warranty, they tend to make factory overclocked versions for the performance junkies.

otherwise like everyone else I reccomend ASUS & Gigabyte
