684166 2008-07-01 04:02:00 Hi One and all

After spending the last 3 hours getting "Win Spyware Protect"
removed from my brother in laws lappie, I am left with one issue.
In/on the Task Bar, beside the clock is showing in the following format
"15:14: VIRUS ALERT"
If I turn of the clock feature. Right click Task Bar - Properties-Notification area and untick "Show clock" the "15:14: VIRUS ALERT" disapears, but then of course No Cloclk
If you retick this selection, the "15:14: VIRUS ALERT" is back.
Does anyone have any ideas where this last vestige of the Spyware/ Virus may be hiding

Cheers

Also run SmitfraudFix (www.trendsecure.com) through in safe mode.

684168 2008-07-02 07:56:00 Hi Guys

Just spent some more time on this issue Removed Nod 32 as the problem seemed to be imbedded in there some how.
I then loaded AVG Pro and ran this.
It found several references to SPYWARE and then removed them.
The problem posted went away.
I have since run SMITFRAUD as suggested and this found a couple of issues in registry.
Have rebooted and run both AVG Pro SMITFRAUD and all seem to be clean.
Thanks
HH

684169 2008-07-02 11:26:00 Install Avast Home as your AV since it is quite a bit better than AVG and still free. beeswax34 (63)

It probably seems to the OP that NOD32 was causing the issue, probably it was detecting a virus that it couldn't remove.

684172 2008-07-02 22:17:00 NOD32 is an excellent antivirus. BUT you need antispyware as well.
Thats your problem.

684173 2008-07-02 22:21:00 Use Malwarebytes, or Rogueremover. One of them should be able to remove it Speedy Gonzales (78)
