685285 2008-07-04 09:38:00 Hi guys. My landlady asked me to have a look of their very, very slow computer. Because I don't know much about how the computer performed in the past, as well as being quite wary of deleting off random programs just in case they are useful. The couple who own this computer said they don't know much about it, but they do their home business via this computer so there's a very good chance that some "random" looking programs are of great use for them.

Here are the specs:

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition, Version 2002. Service Pack 2.

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.06GHz
3.06GHz, 448MB of RAM

I know that these are not the most impressive specs out there, but I've been told that it was not this slow in the past.

So far I have scanned and healed or deleted viruses with AVG Free Edition 8.0, updated today. Scanned and deleted spyware with Webroot SpySweeper 5.5. Defragged the hard drive, that has 58GB of free space. Terminated all the background program that are not in immediate use.

And the computer is still noticably lagging. So I ran HJT, and this is the log:

Are there any spyware or malware that I've missed? Would there be any other reasons on why this computer is so slow? Please keep in mind that this is not my computer, so I would not want to take the hack 'n slash approach I usually use with unknown programs.

Thank you for you help!
Selphiroth (13699)
685286 2008-07-04 09:52:00 Yup you missed mywebsearch, uninstall it in add/remove programs

C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe

hmmm some other instances as well? A trojan perhaps

685288 2008-07-04 10:51:00 I would say those are the valid windows svchost files

Trojans may also use other folders, but the same name, or different spellings
