2006-01-20 02:27:00 | Hiya Are 30min upload times for 1.7MB on dialup normal? When I upload files many times it gets "connection was interrupted" and then it stops and I have to redo any uploads that were successful. This comes up on 2 different computers, both on dialup, generally happens while it is uploading the 2nd photo, each photo is around 1.7MB in size. I have 12 pictures to upload. Or should I just go to my local lab and hand over a memory card? I think it would be helpful if I get my own printer :horrified

I would think that could be your best bet :) I think it would be helpful if I get my own printer :horrified yep :) |

2006-01-20 03:24:00 | lol. I am getting p'ed off. Becos upload for 12 technically takes 6 hour. But the catch is, if it bums up you have to redo all the photos again. So lately I been doing like 2 at a time. First 2 went via, then the 3rd photo stayed at 600kb uploaded for sometime til it gave up. But I want to try out frogprint. I think I won't anymore. Maybe a lab is a lab afterall. Just out of interest if two computers called each other via the modem dialup directly (not via the net), what is the download transfer rate for that?

2006-01-20 04:14:00 | Two computers connected by a phone line will have a maximum 33 . 6 kbps rate . The V9x 56k rate only applies for a link from the exchange end to your computer . Anything going from your computer is at the 33 . 6 k maximum rate . When you are linked to an ISP, their connection from the exchange is not by a modem . It's digital all the way, both ways between them and your exchange . If the computers are in different towns, your data rate will depend on the quality of the multiple A-D conversions in the trunk network, as well as the quality of the copper in the last bit to each computer . You could post a CD to a lab . The data rate for that might be pretty good .

2006-01-20 04:30:00 | That does sound a long time to upload one pic but then it is a rather large file size . When I uploaded a handful of pics when I was on dialup I remember it did take a while for them all but my file sizes were a third of yours . I do like and recommend Frogprints but in your situation I think you are best to take your memory card to a lab . Alternatively, you could send Frogprints a CD with your pics if you have a bulk lot to get printed . The more you get done the cheaper it gets .

2006-01-20 04:55:00 | As FoxyMX hinted 1.7MB is big for a photo unless you are wanting/needing high resolution, or wanting to extract and enlarge parts of a photo. If you are just taking "snaps" :) , then consider reducing down to around 100KB or so.

2006-01-20 07:07:00 | I am not sure. I have read that pple resize them at 300dpi for the 6x4 inch for a 6x4 inch print. Some pple who wanted larger and the file didn't have the resolution they interpolated up using 240 or 300 dpi. I did that for most and saved as JPG MAX quality. I only printed 6x4 or 6x4.5 inch dependent on camera as they had different resolutions. I had 2 at 180dpi by mistake so I will see how they will compare. I ended up bearing it via and uploaded to frogprints. It speeded up at 6pm onwards.
