| 422435 | 2006-01-19 09:54:00 | don't really know which forum to post to but i thought it might generate some informed discussion and eventually some recommendations on this one - attached is a newsletter from "Gizmo Richards" entitled "Support Alert Newsletter" 18/1/06 - oops! i'm not allowed to post an attachment - word doc - but the item referred to is about web surfing using a virtual machine - not too satisfactory i know but maybe some savvy types can make sense of it | jayal (1291) | ||
| 422436 | 2006-01-20 03:13:00 | The most common and easy to use PC Virtual Machine emulators are: Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 VMWare Workstation 5.5 and a not-so-easy one is QEMU. What the newsletter was saying (from the sounds of your post) is that they recommended using a virtual machine, which will take all the viruses, spyware, crap, etc, and not your PC, which will remain relatively untouched. This is easy to do, however, I personally don't recommend this (although the concept is good), simply because Virtual Machines are noticeably slower than the host PC. A trial version of Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 is available HERE (www.microsoft.com), however, it is limited to 1 months use before having to buy it. |
