421564 2006-01-16 03:45:00 If like me you have totally enjoyed the wacky music on the summer program, here are the lyrics to 2 of the funniest songs . . . .

(To the tune of "I'm Looking Over A Four-Leaf Clover")

I'm looking over my dead dog Rover
Who I hit with the power mower
One leg is missing
The other is gone
The third leg is scattered
All over the lawn
No need for explaining
The one leg remaining
Is spinning on the car port door
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover
Who I overlooked before .

I'm looking over my dead dog Rover
Who I hit with the power mower
Rover's not eating
He no longer barks
He hit the propellor
And turned into sparks
No need for explaining
There's no dog remaining
He's part of the grass you see
I'm looking over my dead dog Rover
Whom I sent to eternity .

----------------------

Dead puppies, dead puppies,
Dead puppies aren't much fun .

They don't come, when you call,
They don't chase squirrels at all --
Dead puppies aren't much fun .

My puppy died late last fall,
He's still rotting in the hall --
Dead puppies aren't much fun .
No, no, no . . .

Mom says puppy's days are through,
She's going to throw him in the stew --
Dead puppies aren't much fun .

Dead puppies, dead puppies,
Dead puppies aren't much fun .

Dead puppies, dead puppies,
Dead puppies aren't much fun .

Dead puppies, dead puppies,
Dead puppies aren't much fun .

I wish national radio would run podcasts of their shows like RNZ international does . I really like their current affairs shows, but I can only stream them, I would prefer to get them via podcast on my PSP .

Once was enough.
(Not that the health message wasn't terribly terribly worthy..)

Well unlike you I have more taste.

Have you been reading the Metla thread which is full of garbage anyway when it comes to lyrics.

Thinks about posting "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" or Chicken Little in this case.

The sky has not yet fallen.

I love dogs. More particularly Samoyeds, Collies and Labradors. Don't want to know about Poodles. I can't have a DOG here at the moment but we have two cats.

It happens to be one year today when we had to put Mushka down who was a cat.

Letters in the Wood.

Wherever I go she follows

My house is her domain

There isn’t a nook or cranny

Where she hasn’t staked her claim

Even though she has left me

There isn’t one tiny place

Where I don’t sense her presence

Or remember her cheerful face

All the years we spent together

Remain buried in my past

The memories are like diamonds

Forever they will last

She couldn’t speak my language

She knew that I understood

Scratch marks on the door

Are her letters in the wood.

There is no way I would find the earlier lyrics funny.

421570 2006-03-04 12:12:00 Hi guys...

Phil O'Brien here - the man responsible for those incredibly bad-taste (read: funny) songs on Matinee Idle.

Who on earth had the time to sit down and transcribe the lyrics to "Dead Puppies"? I think it's great that someone did, but you really should get out more...

Anyway, interesting comments on this thread. Dead Puppies, Cousin Mosquito (parts 1 AND 2!!) et al - they'll all be back NEXT summer, along with more assorted ephemera.... Any and all suggestions welcome.

Cheers

Phil O'Brien (and James Thomson who's currently cycling like a maniac around the North Island...)

421571 2006-03-04 19:41:00 Thanks Phill, but I only cut n pasted them off the net :)

I loved your show and I notice that slowly the aftenoon Nat Radio seems to be sliding in the direction that you forged out.

A wonderful breath of fresh air into what was becoming boring.

421572 2006-03-04 19:57:00 Hi Phil

Welcome to PressF1 . Glad to know you will be back next summer . And I only got to hear part 1 of My cousin the mosquito, so maybe next summer I can complete my musical education .

Loved the show, but I am self employed, so you guys cost me a lot of time and money . I had to turn the radio off at times so I could concentrate on work! Boring! :waughh:

Anyway, more power to your elbow (or something) . Bad taste rules! Thanks for lots of summer fun .

421573 2006-03-04 21:26:00 This is what "I'm looking Over a Four Leaf Clover" should sound like:
www.redhotjazz.com take 4.

Jean Goldkette and his Orchestra in 1927 with Bix Beiderbecke cornet, Joe Venuti violin, Frankie Trumbauer C-Melody sax, et al, with Billy Murray doing a dreadful vocal :)

Listen carefully to Bix doing his thing on cornet in the background at about 2min30sec ...
