| 422306 | 2006-01-21 23:08:00 | Hi everyone :) I am delighted at the various responses of people to this amazing and astounding exhibition and thought I'd say hello :-) The enormous variety of emotions triggered by this exhibition really highlights how necessary it is for us to become seriously involved in our survival as a race . It should be accepted as a matter of course, natural and normal that we study anatomical function and structure . What else can be more important for our future generations as they learn to take care of our planet? I feel CARING starts AT HOME, i . e . with our own body! This was a comment by Mrs Inger Hall an ex nurse, mother of 3 and grandmother of 4 . And, as you can probably tell by now, I am one of the people involved in this exhibition and welcome your thoughts and feedback, especially after you see the exhibition for yourself . I guess you can see I am very passionate and proud to be involved in this incredible and beautiful display . However, I also respect that everyone will have their own feelings and thoughts towards it . BUT an emotional response to this display has no relevance on the educational aspect . This exhibiton is not a disrespectful display of the human body . It in fact portrays the human body in all its beauty . Visitors will be able to see the human body at work and get a great visual understanding of anatomy in a very unique way . It is a comprehensive and descriptive exposition rather than a typical anatomy museum . The unique use of authentic specimens shows the details of disease, physiology and anatomy in a way that cannot be shown with models, textbooks or photos . In other words, you will be able to see how the muscles and organs move around in different positions along with comparisons of diseased tissue with healthy ones . While we were unpacking some of the specimens for the Sydney show, every single person who has seen them have gone away absolutely astounded and amazed at what these displays look like, and with a new appreciation and respect of their body . Joseph Campbell said near the end of his life: "I am not the light bulb, I am the light . " To look at the light bulb carefully and understand how it works can help us learn to take care of it so that we can enjoy the best health possible with enough energy and well being to care for each other . The stigma of the cadaver due to thousands of years of religious oppression has always been unfounded . The body is nature's art . We want to bring out all the beauty and intrigue that evolution has created for us . We need to learn not to identify ourselves as our bodies . They are merely a vehicle and a vehicle that we need to understand and love . The poses of the plastinates have been carefully thought out and serve educational aims . Each plastinate is posed to illustrate different physiological features . For instance, the athletic poses illustrate the use of muscle systems while playing sports . The poses are chosen to highlight specific anatomical features and allow the visitor to relate the plastinate to his or her own body . I believe that when people understand more about how the body works and how it can break down, they become more involved in taking better care of themselves to sustain their good health . Also, we hope it will inspire visitors to learn more about the life sciences . |

| 422308 | 2006-01-21 23:39:00 | this incredible and beautiful display . It in fact portrays the human body in all its beauty . Huh? I thought I heard that beauty was only skin deep? Muahahahaha But anyway, how anyone can take such copious amounts of mind altering drugs to be able to view the insides of a human body as "beautiful", and still live, is wayyyy beyond my understanding . Anyway, I hope your post gets deleted as spam, it being against the general guidlines of these forums to promote commercial activities that one's involved in . |

| 422309 | 2006-01-22 00:57:00 | Playboy and Penthouse sell a lot of magazines to people who consider the insides of a human body to be beautiful, Greg. They can't all "just read the articles". | Graham L (2) | ||

It really depends on how you feel.I feel that inorder to understand things better I would look at it in real life rather than read a book.Yes its true that reading books can help you learn but sometimes there are things that can't be seen and has to view in order to understand the organs better. It's like while i was at high school we studied the auckland highway. We studied and went to auckland to see for ourself how the highway is.Teacher did show us photos of the auckland highway but I learnt more by observing and studying. |
