421261 2006-01-16 23:34:00 Are you dealing with one of those people that have been given dodgy or outdated advice (or taken valid advice out of context) & refuses to listen to reason? Greven (91)
421262 2006-01-17 07:38:00 Not really Grevin, I'm sure he has a reason. Probably wants to use two screens - onboard & card. I'm pretty sure I am obliged to provide a refund if I can't provide an appropriate replacement.

Anyway, he's happy with the board Agent mentioned so I'm sorted :).

421263 2006-01-17 07:59:00 You must have one very odd customer, I cannot think of a single use for a PC, where an onboard video chip would be of any more use than a dedicated card. (ask him why this is essential)

Conversely I can think of plenty where a Video card would be of more use.

The other thing to bear in mind, it is a recognised condition of warranties that stock does not remain available for ever.

As long as you replace with a Motherboard of equal or better specification he does not have a leg to stand on as far as the Consumer Guarantees Act goes.

I think the closest you will get to it now is this one here (tw.giga-byte.com)
it exceeds the specification of the old board in most respects but will need a seperate graphics card.

All up for the board and something like an ATI 9250 Graphics card you would be looking at around $180.00 inc gst.

Offer him this deal, TELL him it far exceeds the spec of what he had before, TELL him there are no integrated boards that match the spec's of his board around anymore and if he wants integrated graphics he will have to pay for a new CPU.

The Board you are offering is better than he currently has and you are exceeding your requirements under the CGA already and that is all you are prepared to do take it or leave it

PM me if you wish to know a supplier who still has a few of them in stock
Apart from the fact that Agent sorted your problem, Alan's answer was the most sensible of all.

It all sounded like a storm in a teacup to me.

421264 2006-01-17 08:17:00 Yeah, well I used to run a video card + integrated graphics together so it seems logical to me. Anyway I'm better off from asking you guys and finding an appropriate board than trying to tell this guy "tough luck" and him taking me to the disputes tribunal (whether he would win or lose). george12 (7)
421265 2006-01-18 03:14:00 George, if you haven't already done anything re the board, how about this Asus socket A, 333 with onboard video, lan, etc, micro atx (www.pbwellington.co.nz), at $99.00 + GST. Murray P (44)
421266 2006-01-18 04:09:00 Well, it doesn't support DDR400, which would be a problem. They're all NEARLY perfect :(.

Unfortunately the perfect board Agent mentioned is unavailable anywhere in the country (that google or pricespy could find).

So does anyone know where to get either of them? The Gigabyte GA-7VM400AM or the Albatron KM400A Pro?
george12 (7)
421267 2006-01-18 04:36:00 Theres an MSI board that suits your specs and uses the KM400 chipset, ive used it before myself, very good motherboard. I know the guys at PCTronix sell it, not sure if its still avaliable. Pete O'Neil (6584)
421268 2006-01-18 04:42:00 It doesn't apper to be Pete, I can't find it at their website. Still, if you can get me the model number I can look for it elsewhere as well.

Thanks.

421269 2006-01-18 05:24:00 Looks like your inquiry into the albatron board has given them inspiration to clean up dead products on the website. George just grow some balls and make your supplier fix the problem, its not your problem to fix. Pete O'Neil (6584)
421270 2006-01-18 05:33:00 Pete, they won't and I don't have time to make them. The only way I can get them to sort it out for me is the disputes tribunal and that takes weeks, which I don't have.

I need to fix this myself and THEN sort them out.
