I've gotten a little further. In fact I went right back to the beginning, deleted all files and started again. I do now get to the Silverstripe installation screen.

But I cannot understand the meaning of the messages appearing in red under 'MySQL database'. [See:
www.plimmerton-rotary.wellington.net.nz where I've captured the screen on one of the sites I content manage].

I've tried various entries under 'MySQL username' e.g. My pressf1 name, and the name of the PC 'Owner' but all get the same error message

I don't understand what is wrong with the username/password combination

I don't understand why I can't create or access the MySQL database

MySQL has its own table of users - the 'root' user for MySQL should be in the documentation for whatever server stack you installed, unless you set it earlier. Try 'root' with no password - that's usually the default. Log un to phpmyadmin using this and create a new account and database for silverstripe to use. Then install silverstripe.

Have you tried your emulator with another application, to work out whether it is the emulator or the silverlight software that is the problem. He's not using an emulator, he's using a standard WAMP server stack.

685194 2008-07-05 08:59:00 Hi, I have followed the instructions in the mag and can't get the local host to work to display the install silverstripe webpage.
I have disabled Windows & Esnet firewall - no luck. I then went to the silverstipe website and followed their instructions and video.
Also the .htaccess file is empty on my PC. Disabled port 80 on skype.
Changed the port to 3000. Just get connection was reset when trying to load the local hosts site. Interestingly the URL changes to localhost.com when the page times out.
I have XP SP2, FF2, and the dial on the wamp sever is white. IE also timed out. Any idea's. Rebooting PC didn't help. Cheers.

685197 2008-07-07 00:22:00 I too have encountered a problem.

Firstly I do not have a SilverStripe-v2.2.2 folder on my July DVD. I just have SilverStripe.

In that directory there are three files
-MACOSX/
pc world cover disc/
screenshot.png

There is no v2.2.2 file or folder anywhere on the disc.

On running Wamp Localhost I get a browser window opening with an index of /SilverStripe listing the files above.

So I never get to the point of installing SilverStripe.

In other words I never get to figure 4 on page 85 of the magazine, despite following the instructions carefully.

Am I correct in assuming that I have the wrong Silverstripe file not just a naming error?

Thank you

685198 2008-07-07 03:01:00 Re missing SilverStripe-v2.2.2 file.

I have found it now. Seems that my disk may have been faulty or my DVD reader was at fault.

Thank you

685199 2008-07-10 09:55:00 Try 127.0.0.1 and see how that goes.

I have tried lots of things to get it working.... Reinstalled.
Discovered that IIS is NOT required... Disabled Skype port 80 etc.

Anyway I just did a typo of 127.0.01 (Note missing period) and it worked - got a wamp page and link to the sliverstripe install page.
Why is the IP 127.0.01? My hosts file has localhost at 127.0.0.1. So the link in the WAMP menu doesn't work. How do I fix it back to 127.0.0.1?

Cheers
Nick

Well the IP of 127.0.0.1 also works. Turns out that when 127.0.01 fails it defaults to the local host anyway. But the local host button on the WAMP menu still isn't working.
