685317 2008-07-06 10:21:00 I think WN charge about $2000 for hardware and installation. Safari (3993)
685318 2008-07-06 10:24:00 WE are still on the old Bordernet system i.e. one way satellite. Okay if you don't need fast upload and a free phone line.
Costs $ 300 to setup and pay $ 30 monthly for 256 up and 128 down speed on 500 mb plan. Costs $ 60 for 2 gig.
Just did an Xnet test and got 1026 kbps down and 826 up . Latency = 669 ms.

Works okay for us and can use dial upon laptop to same account when away from home.

685319 2008-09-11 10:01:00 i was with WN then went to farmside i have never had a problem with it, Either have my neighbours or any other farmers/rural folk i know,

I was googling them as i signed up with them a month ago and wouldnt to see what was "out" on them and found this,

penguin2 i was once on town adsl as where i use to live i could get it, I knew when i went to wireless nation that no way would this be like adsl in way of speed as of latency,
I moved from WN to FS for the support they offer and the new VOIP service released, my neighbours are with FS and have been for a few years now and they have never had any problems that werent resolved quickly and professionally,
I struggle to see why you pay so much when there 256 plan is only 49.95 a month tho, Maybe you should look into the plans on there site or call them to discuss ya issues, I know i would, the few people i have talked to there were the most friendliest and helpful i have came across with any of my ol providers (WN xtra ihug and vodafone),
As for speed when i joined WN this was a main concern of mine too as i was use to having adsl it seemed so slow and speedtest.net and consumerspeedtest.org.nz werent displaying my accurate speed so i went to several PC techies whom claimed the sites arent 100%accurate i didnt beleive them nor the person at WN telling me this, a pc guy suggested a DU meter that i used on my PC and it proved them all right to my disgust as i had kicked up such a stink and wasted many dollars on working this out, Anyways my point is im happy with them and i know many others who are

Support? I've spoken to Farmsides support. Its about as good as Xtras. :annoyed:

WN has VOIP too, they all do.
WN has 2 choices, pay for the equipment outright or pay it with costs built in to the monthly plan, which is what Farmside does.

Either way, the equipment is maintained, they don't just abandon you if there are any problems.

685321 2008-09-13 23:40:00 Have 3 of my clients that couldnt get broadband so they chose to get farmside, after months of putting up with a connection which worked like **** half the time not even getting any connection and farmside not really being very helpful they have all paid early termination fees of there contracts and gone back to there old dialup plans .

Good idea to stay away from farmside and there major issues along with there unhelpful support .

685322 2008-09-14 09:39:00 My brother has FS and has had no problems. From memory downloads run at about 35Kb which is way better than my dial-up. His nieghbour has Xtra broadband and he gets dumped a lot and speeds vary from 7Kb to 70 odd. At least the FS is consistant. mikebartnz (21)
685323 2008-09-15 07:11:00 I know a few people who are using Scorch www.scorch.co.nz

Not satellite and not sure of there national coverage but certainly has a good uptake in rural areas around Otago where normal broadband is not available.
