685182 2008-07-04 03:41:00 I also set this to on, and it made no difference
I stopped all the services, then restarted them, still no difference,

Do the same as you did to turn the mod_rewrite thingie on on, except select PHP -> PHP setting -> and found allowc_call_time_pass_reference and clicked on it and that section of orange dissappeared

as for the database stuff i left it as the default

Unfortunatly i am getting errors myself now when i try and install silver stripe

possibly related to the other orange sections which i can't seem to solve, i have selected the directories and removed the read-only check (caused no doubt by being on a cd)

I checked PHP Setting as suggested. allowc_call_time_pass_reference was ticked so I did nothing.

The screen I'm seeing doesn't even have an 'Install' button displayed. I had presumed I wasn't seeing it pending my fixing of the red and orange items.

685183 2008-07-04 04:18:00 Dammit i just reread your first post
If mysql isn't showing as supported then you have a real problem

in the php extensions list are mysql and mysqli both ticked?

What happens if you do a "stop all services" then a "restart all services"

Both items are ticked in php extensions. I've tried stopping and restarting several times with no change in result.

685186 2008-07-04 06:11:00 I've just noticed that when I hover my mouse over the little gauge thingy it shows 'WAMPSERVER - server Offline'. I've tried starting, restarting, stopping, re-booting, resatarting winamp and stooping restarting etc., but that offline message persists. noelevans (10557)

Mine says offline too, and it seems to work fine

When you installed wamp what did you leave the default servername as localhost?

685188 2008-07-04 10:57:00 OK, got home half an hour ago, pulled the cover DVD out and chucked it in. I didn't want to install WAMPServer (just done a fresh install a couple weeks ago) so opted to download a portable WAMP setup from CH Software called WOS Portable (www.chsoftware.net). It's configurable and I downloaded full, "non-SE" versions of Apache2, PHP5, MySQL5 and ImageMagick which came to a 14 MB download (100 MB+ "installed").

Anyway unpacking and set-up of WOS Portable was a breeze, so I unarchived SilverStripe and put it under web server root (D:\Server\www\silverstripe\index.php on my system). allowc_call_time_pass_reference is set to Off by default and this isn't too hard to manually turn off in php.ini. I just ignored the writable issues, hit install and SilverStripe installed without a problem (www.imagef1.net.nz).

Can't they try XAMPP instead to see if it works under that?

Yes.

I've gotten a little further. In fact I went right back to the beginning, deleted all files and started again. I do now get to the Silverstripe installation screen.

But I cannot understand the meaning of the messages appearing in red under 'MySQL database'. [See:
www.plimmerton-rotary.wellington.net.nz where I've captured the screen on one of the sites I content manage].

I've tried various entries under 'MySQL username' e.g. My pressf1 name, and the name of the PC 'Owner' but all get the same error message

I don't understand what is wrong with the username/password combination

I don't understand why I can't create or access the MySQL database

Have you tried your emulator with another application, to work out whether it is the emulator or the silverlight software that is the problem.
