| 422818 | 2006-01-20 09:27:00 | Yeah well I'm not 100% sure which angle he was meaning to be 70 degrees. I had length b as the vertical (just to confuse you i.e. triangle on its side). So assuming Angle A is 70 degrees .. you will get the same answer of 0.363 m. But according to the link you gave and the diagram there we need to recalculate with length a as the vertical and find length b. We know that the vertical is 1 metre. Just to confuse you further I have put the triangle on the only other side we can. This before bob_doe_nz pops up and reminds me that a triangle has three sides I had better say that I know that one too. :-) |

It should be "So assuming Angle A is 70 degrees and length 'a' is 1 m (the vertical) you will get the same answer of 0.363 m. I am now unsubscribing from this thread ;) |

| 422822 | 2006-01-20 16:07:00 | Sorry to add me bit, but what a confusing thread, As I understand it Tan 70º (angle at mystery length) = (Vertical side is 1m long.) / mystery bottom horizontal length Tan being the opposite side over the adjacent side. Tan70º = 2.74747741945462227876166402649767 lets just make it Tan70º = 2.75 so mystery bottom horizontal length = 1 meter / Tan70º or 2.75 = 0.36 meters I am sure 364 millimeters will do, Why do we need to find 20º ? |

The 20 degree is a result of 90 (the right angle) + 70 = 160 . 180 - 160 = 20 . |
