| 421846 | 2006-01-17 12:11:00 | I successfully tracked it down though - firstin.co.nz. Congratulations George you have found the latest incarnation of the PC Company. Last time I looked they were still flogging off the gear from the old PC Company days. the cases pictured if you looked very closely still had PC Company branding on them. (Colin Brown bought up the entire PC Company stock from the liquidator after the demise of the PC Company, after a short diversion with a company in Whakatane he was left with the bulk of the stock still to get rid of) I see now they are interspersing the old stuff with new, but from my observation it's nearly all very very low end no name stuff, so be warned. (up until Sept/ Oct of last year they were still using the loved 40GB/60Gb Maxtor 5400RPM drives the PC Company were known for) Their Forum makes very interesting reading, quite often they are unable to answer any questions at all about the different things they are hocking off and have to refer questions back to the supplier for details (just like the good old days) sometimes they come up with answers often not. |

| 421849 | 2006-01-17 18:27:00 | He briefly tried flogging the old PC Company machines off through Building Depot until BD went into receivership too. I mentioned this on his Firstin forum and he deleted it. Of course. I have just replaced one of those Maxtors from a PC Company computer. The customer bought it in October 2003 - just before he went bust - the Maxtor has 31Oct 2001 on it. And it had an HP EISA partition that hadn't been deleted first - what did they do, install a used drive? I wish they'd change the law so these guys couldn't just go off and start some new business and get away with their shoddy practices. |
