684775 2008-07-02 22:51:00 Hi am trying to dual-boot DreamLinux with vista, but when booting from the live CD I get this message "Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!" booting from XFCE or GNOME. Can anyone help me.
Thanks

684777 2008-07-02 23:52:00 Can you paste the lines of log output occuring immediately *before* you got the kernel panic?

The kernel panic is the result of the Linux kernel doing the best it can to cope with a *very* abnormal situation - normally this means faulty hardware, unless you were fiddling with some of the deeper, darker parts of your system without understanding them (e.g. kmem). Simply telling us you got a kernel panic is useless, as there are almost as many reasons as there are computers to trigger this state. Usually it will tell you exactly what is wrong, right before the kernel panic occurs.

Does Vista run? Usually hardware that causes a kernel panic on Linux won't even boot Windows either.
