I do not understand the question Bryan which probably means you do not understand what HTML is. HTML is "like" a programming language, tells web browsers what to do, like showing you the text on the page. Now I said HTML was like a programming language but really its a set of instructions for designing a page, they call it a mark up language. Word processors too work the same, where you make a word bold, it stores hidden mark up to make that word appear bold and your word processor understands how to display it to you. Now HTML 5, is the latest instruction set mostly aimed at web browsers, which is odd that you are wondering if you should download it. Maybe it is an update for added support, since browsers are all working on getting fully compliant, in which case, do indeed get it, that way your web browsing experience can be better. |

| 1428835 | 2016-11-17 06:28:00 | Thanks Kame. Yes, I agree that I did not fully understand HTML and now, thanks to you, I now have a glimmer. It's just that I saw something that made me think I needed to know. I am using EDGE so It would therefore probably mean that Edge is compliant to play HTML5 as it comes across it on the Web. Thanks again. | Bryan (147) | ||

| 1428837 | 2016-11-18 01:51:00 | You should download Chrome. It comes with HTML5. Not like EDGE where you have to install it separately ;) | Chilling_Silence (9) | ||

HTML5 is not an add-on but an updated "standard" for HTML (Hypertext Markup language) which is the most basic building block of webpage design and visualization. In short HTML5 introduces new efficiencies for web page design, formatting , web page elements and most importantly is more "open". Due to these new additions web sites/pages designed using HTML5 don't require the use of things such as Silverlight or Adobe Flash etc, making it a significantly more secure standard compared to its predecessor HTML (which is still in use) especially when we consider the "threat" Adobe Flash presents to users. This is also why I mentioned that HTML5 is a more "open" standard, because it means developers are not forced into using flash based elements etc. as HTML5 provides these facilities. HTML5 is still "relatively" new and whilst there are sites out there which make use of it, a significant portion of of the web is still on HTML. As mentioned by Speedy, Chrome supports HTML5 natively and I think so does Firefox and not too sure about MS Edge. HTML5 write up on MDN (developer.mozilla.org) Cheers, |
