| 1428334 | 2016-11-04 08:27:00 | I backed my iPhone a two weeks ago with iTunes. so today I was trying to restore some photos from the backup. When I clicked the restore button, it asks me for a password. As far as I could remember, I never added any password to the backup file. Now, I can't restore any file due to the weird password issue. Any iTunes guru in here? | oooinzn (17492) | ||

| 1428336 | 2016-11-04 08:58:00 | Try your original password for the iTunes store. It seems its common with ITunes both on windows and MAC's. Failing that, do a google search for: "itunes asking for password to restore from backup" Plenty of suggestions. One page gives a few suggestions but the link wont work. Step 1) Try your iTunes Store password first. This is most commonly the password to restore your backup. Step 2) Try your 4 digit unlock code for your device. If you have a more complex unlock code involving characters and such, try that too. Step 3) Try 0000 as the password, sometimes the default password is in fact, 0000. Step 4) Sometimes, the password can be a really old iTunes password that you set a long time ago but have since changed it. The original password is sometimes your backup password. This may be a bug in iTunes but try it and see if it works. Could also be the admin password of your computer |

| 1428337 | 2016-11-04 18:41:00 | The backup password in iTunes is a separate one to anything else. Using a backup password allows the backup to be encrypted so any passwords etc on your phone can also be included in the backup. The password for the backups is stored on the phone so if you backed it up on another computer that backup would have the same password. You will need to know the password to turn it off again. Only way to get rid of it would be to wipe your phone and start again from scratch. Can you not backup to iCloud instead? That just uses your Apple ID and password. |

The backup password in iTunes is a separate one to anything else. Can you not backup to iCloud instead? That just uses your Apple ID and password. Thanks for the details. I have only one backup file so factory reset is not my case. and i didn't backup with iCloud coz the upload speed is very low in here. |

I digged a bit more online and find out the only way is to burte-force the password with programs. Took me four days to get back the 8 length password by following this (www.uukeys.com) post. It is hard but did work. | oooinzn (17492) | ||
