1428165 2016-11-02 21:27:00 Just got an E-Mail from a Software Company I must have done business with in the past.

Seems like it’s “Game On” with Microsoft and their Spyware.

1428167 2016-11-02 22:38:00 my god , talk about scareware bogus marketing. :)

That crossed my mind too, but then I thought it’s a bloody big call to make such damaging claims against a Multinational Company, situated in the Litigation Capital of the World, without first having “Your Ducks in Line”.

In short, the Truth is their only defence.

Microsoft’s response, if any, will be interesting. :)

1428168 2016-11-02 23:21:00 MS have admitted , that 'telemetry' cannot be turned off , via the usual settings.
I guess some of the settings to turn it off was just a ruse

but on the other hand
"Most of the criticisms I've seen were based on misreading of the privacy policies for Windows 10 and for Microsoft's online services."
www.zdnet.com

I would bet all this 'spyware' talk is mostly just tech journalists just rehashing info found via google searches
Few of them seem to do any actual research themselves, just rehash what others have claimed.
Where is the ACTUAL proof .

Im sure if MS wanted to collect all our stuff, they could do it at such a low level that it couldnt be blocked with a simple 3rd party app

Many other companies do collect data on you , as much as they can get their hands on.
Just reality of life on the internet.
Got free email, chances are its being scanned & data collected .

But when caught out slurping data or onselling data , companies allways reply with, 'that wasnt intended', or 'an accident' . Despite the fact that they designed systems just for that
purpose . So who really knows :-)

1428169 2016-11-02 23:23:00 :groan: Once again B.M you're blaming the wrong people.

Seen that sort of advertising countless times on OS's from XP - W10.

Its SoftOrbit advertising. At some point in time you either clicked on something or installed one of their programs or another associated to softorbits, thus causing the advertising ( if you had read the terms and conditions or privacy policy - which no one ever does) it will usually say they send advertising.

From their privacy statement:
You should be aware that www.softorbits.com uses Google AdWords, Google Analytics, and the Google Display Network together to serve ads to you on other websites after you've visited our website. This practice is known as remarketing and is a tool that Google offers to businesses. If you would like to know more you can read more about Google Remarketing here. But here are the basics: we, along with third-party vendors, Google, use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookie) to inform, optimize, and serve ads based on your past visits to our website. If you would like to opt-out of receiving advertising like this from Google, you can manage these settings by visiting the Google Ads Preferences Manager. Also, Google recommends installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Its your own browsing habits and sites you vist.

1428170 2016-11-02 23:40:00 ........"Also, Google recommends installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on"............ Are they serious ? :clap

It may work, but could you trust them ?????????????????????

No, the best sure fire way to kill Google Analytics and other crap is to have a decent proprietary HOSTS file like MVPS

1428172 2016-11-02 23:51:00 Web of Trust is the latest to fall fowl of selling Browser data from you but there is multiple of others doing it

1428173 2016-11-02 23:54:00 Ghostery works just fine for Analytics etc, and for all the ads as well - no need to muck around with host files bevy121 (117)

Oh Wainui, you make me laugh in your narrow focus Microsoft Glasses . :D

You’re on record as having spent hours on this site recommending Antivirus, Antimalware, Antispyware programmes, you name it, but when Microsoft do the same thing, that’s OK .

Well it’s not OK with me, and I am not alone . ;)
