| 1428048 | 2016-10-31 19:54:00 | Back in late November a computer friend installed windows 10 Pro on our aged desktop and been going a lot better tan Vista ever did. Over night it did a reboot after an update and my wife said had locked up. I was still asleep, as unwell and she did a cold boot. Seemed to startup ok but a message came up and said licence was due to run out... I had a look at win 10 pro is about NZ$350????? Any ideas as to what we can do? Haven't been able to get in touch with him, last few months, as he was getting burnt out doing all the freebie installs. Thanks, Ian |

Vista IS NOT eligible as part of the free upgrade to W10, you either had to have W7 or W8-8.1 If you didn't pay for a W10 licence, call me suspicious but it could have been some sort of W10 Pro hacked /pirated licence /Activation (pro is the most commonly previously actions). Seen this sort of thing WAY TO MANY times. If you DID buy a W10 licence then that's a different matter. You Should have been given a Product Key. W10 Pro is roughly $250, As listed at Ascent (www.ascent.co.nz) That's OEM with Retail at about $295. |

I'm thinking was just an update as I remember reading somewhere you could get a licence for Vista... |

I'm thinking was just an update as I remember reading somewhere you could get a licence for Vista... There was never a legal way to get a upgrade from Vista to W10. You had to have either W7 or 8/8.1 Well there was, but not like you may be thinking. The only legal way to upgrade was to wipe the drive and install a insider version of W10. These expire quite regularly as they are only testing versions and need continuous version updates other wise they shut down. Any upgraded W10 Pro OS's will ALL have the exact same product Key which will be VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T If you run a keyfinder program you can see the installed Key www.lazesoft.com That will show you what's installed. One thing you can do, is if its not the above mentioned default key, copy it out and paste it into google search. If its dodgy in some way you will get results - which really don't need any more explaining. |

| 1428053 | 2016-10-31 22:28:00 | Could be a $NZ10/15 Windows 10 key off Ebay that gets Blacklisted a few months later If he charged you $200/300 you would have got full documentation with it |

| 1428055 | 2016-11-01 00:33:00 | . . . a computer friend . . . well say no more . :badpc: We just paid he $200-$300 for doing the job and took about a week or 2 to do . . . . a week or 2 ??? more like a day or 2 to do this . sounding dodgier by the minute . Was it just as a favour? what was the $200-$300 for ? labour or Windows Licence ? Being generous, he may have installed Win10 OEM & bough a licence , hence the cost ? . or maybee just intstalled the tech preveiw , as that was free but was for testing only . This is the problem with doing jobs for friends & neighbours . Once you start, it never ends, as you friend is finding out Also, friends & neighbours expect alot at near zero cost . There may be more to the story,as your friend was just trying to hlep you out, but now its turned to custard It may all just be an issue caused by a Windows Update, that happens . The 'licence due to run out" doesnt sound right . Perhaps thats just the AV lic due to run out ? Or Office365 due to run out ? Genuine Windows10 lic dont run out . The Tech preview Win10 can run out, if not updated . Just ask the friend EXACTLY what he installed . |

I used Majic Jelly and got, CD Key: W269N-WFGWX-YVC9B-4J6C9-T83GX Did a Google and got:- www.google.co.nz So, what you think? I txted computer guy at about 08:00 & again about 13:00 and still no responce, so still unsure what to do. I checked Activation and it says, Windows is activated using your organisations activation service, whatever that means but does says is activated.... |
