1426613 2016-09-29 05:12:00 Thought I would put this out to the collective mind of PF1.

Ever since buying my ute 8 moths ago the left speaker in the passenger door (only 2 speakers anyway) sometimes drops out.

What I have done is
replaced radio with a brand new one
replaced speakers with known good fully working ones.

Yet the problem persists, slamming the door or taping the door with a piece of 12mm dowel brings the speaker back on. Connections to the speaker are good.

Its totally happening at random, for the last 3 weeks it didn't drop at all then yesterday and today dropping out again, sometimes a bump in the road also brings it back on.

Anyone got any suggestions, I'm hoping to have time at the weekend to swap the left and right speakers over see if it still happens.

1426615 2016-09-29 05:36:00 If it's a older ute would suspect it's the wiring to that door

How hard would it be to replace the wiring?

1426616 2016-09-29 05:53:00 One would suspect the wiring to be failing where it is flexed the most, around the hinge area.

If inspection shows this to be the case, then instead of replacing the whole run of wire, it may be possible to cut out the bad section and solder in a new length of twin core.

1426617 2016-09-29 17:09:00 Quite common for the wiring to go near the door hinge end of the door most cars have a connecting bulkhead plug there. Remember the wires flex there every time you open and close the door. prefect (6291)
1426618 2016-09-30 03:25:00 As noted above wiring issue. Rather than swap the speakers, swap the wires. Or test by wriggling L/H wire with the sound/speakers on. Or do a continuity/ohms test with a multi-meter, though of course you need easy access to the wiring. kahawai chaser (3545)
