1428058 2016-11-01 02:35:00 I used Majic Jelly and got, CD Key: W269N-WFGWX-YVC9B-4J6C9-T83GX
Did a Google and got:- www.google.co.nz
So, what you think?
I txted computer guy at about 08:00 & again about 13:00 and still no responce, so still unsure what to do.
I checked Activation and it says, Windows is activated using your organisations activation service, whatever that means but does says is activated....

The key listed is for a upgraded Windows 10 HOME not Professional, and is legit.

If you have Professional showing, then for some reason it has installed, which by rights shouldn't happen during a normal automatic update.

That generally happens when people download and manually install/upgrade.

What that last line means in the reply ( in basic terms) is the Software is activated with Microsoft - think of it as them using volume licence keys to millions of computers.

Can you check something. Click in the search, type in system Select it from the result, what version of windows does it say you have ?

It will tell you what is installed, on this PC its the insider, but yours will say either Home or Professional:

Once we can figure out what's actually installed then we can move forward.

As well if possible are you able to get a screen shot of the actual expiry message and post back Please.

Hint: its so much easier having a computer in from of you working on it ;)

1428059 2016-11-01 02:36:00 Run winver from the command prompt. What version does it show? Any expiry date shown?

I remember winver (Windows version), from my dim dark past.
Anyways says I have Version 1607.
Product is licenced under the Microsoft Software licence.

That says a lot, no? Does it look like the one I posted above ??

BUT to check in winver this is what the latest insider build ( and previous) will show, different expiry dates of course.

Somethings not ringing right, as build 14393 was /is a public release.

Its almost as if it was a insider build, then upgraded to public and then insider turned off.

A insider build at build number 14393 would expire since insider builds are time-bombed on purpose.

Means he has taken your money and run,the key used is a generic KMS(key Management Service) or volume

What you are using is a insider build and means it is expiring, don't know if you are joined up to the insider program but if you are this may buy you extra time

1428065 2016-11-01 07:35:00 My Bad before OOPS!!:blush: I was looking at the wrong keys, as Lawrence mentioned the key that's installed is a KMS key.

What is meant to happen with KMS keys ( in simple English) is they "phone home" to a server that has the licencing for the business that have purchased how ever many licences from MS.

What MAY have happened: ( and its illegal)

What sometimes happens is people install KMS keys and they work for a while because they have also installed a program that "fakes" the server its phoning home to, so windows thinks its legal. Often when a upgrade happens, these "bypass measures" get removed and then some time after the KMS keys now expire. The key itself is legal, BUT its not able to self activate like a normal key does.

1428066 2016-11-01 08:06:00 So it must have been also Activated back in March(180 days) some how Lawrence (2987)
1428067 2016-11-01 08:47:00 Yep,
Assuming that's what happened, there more than likely was some sort of KMS activation software installed. (Could be wrong, but with everyone's points made in this thread its looking like it) A update would have possibly taken out the Activation software. KMS keys need to re-activate every 180 Days max.

"IF" we are correct I highly suspect its not the first time this has been done and wouldn't be at all surprised if others will have the same problem (as Ian mentioned) "as he was getting burnt out doing all the freebie installs. " Read between the lines. Wouldn't like to be in his shoes if its correct !!

Had that a few months back, the person had downloaded a torrent with Office 2016 Professional.

Now while Office Pro wasn't the warning sign as its quite common, some of the problems they were having suggested something was running in the background causing all sorts of popups and internet connection problems.

Opened Network settings to check what they were and  Connections everywhere 20+ . looking at their names, did a Google search and they were all related to a KMS activation tool. Had a look in the torrent files (nod32 when I installed located it) and low and behold - one zipped file containing Office 2016 & illegal activation software.
