1428013 2016-10-31 10:14:00 OK, so after work today I tried again, this time setting it to the specific IP of my PC - and voila! It's working. (So far!) I can bring the PC out of sleep from my Android phone and/or laptop from the internet.

Seems the problem was in the port forwarding setting, because of the unclear steps in the manual. Thanks @1105 for clearing that up.
My only remaining question is, each time I restart the PC, or each time the network gets disconnected / reconnected, does the router assign a new IP to the PC each time? I will have to test that and see.

1428014 2016-10-31 18:42:00 My only remaining question is, each time I restart the PC, or each time the network gets disconnected / reconnected, does the router assign a new IP to the PC each time? I will have to test that and see. Go into the Network adapter settings on the PC and assign the static IP address there. That way doesn't matter if it reboots etc it will always take what ever IP address is set.

These are the default blank.

1428015 2016-11-01 00:16:00 WT's method is the easiest. Otherwise PC ip might (or might not) change on reboot

just pick an IP that wont ever be allocated to another device, say x.249 , just so you never have 2 devices with the same IP
gateway is the router IP
dns you use ISPs DNS or 8.8.8.8 . You can have more than 1 dns in case the 1st goes offline

1428016 2016-11-01 00:22:00 Thanks guys, what values should I put in the subnet mask and default gateway fields?
@1101, you said the gateway is the router IP, does this value also never ever change?
