| 685673 | 2008-07-06 02:21:00 | I am having trouble trying Linux. I copied the OS to the HDD then burnt it to a CD. I thought all I had to do then was to reboot the PC from the CD but it still starts in XP. What am I doing wrong?. | Pato (2463) | ||
| 685674 | 2008-07-06 02:33:00 | Did you burn it as an iso as thats what you need to do I think, I did that with v7.10 that came out a couple of months ago you need an iso burning program such as iso burner or burnaware free | gary67 (56) | ||

I just used Nero to burn it. Must admit I am not that familiar with iso so perhaps that is where I have gone wrong. Had another look at Nero and I burnt it as a "Data Disc" I presume I should have done it as a "Bootable Data Disc"?? | Pato (2463) | ||

| 685677 | 2008-07-06 03:22:00 | just burn iso as an image, since that's what it is doesn't have to be bootable for me it's in recorder->burn image didn't have to go through the new compilation options |

I presume I cannot burn an iso using Nero. So what program do I need to get an iso?. |

| 685679 | 2008-07-06 03:53:00 | Its probably an ISO now. Double click on it and burn it if Nero is installed 8.04.1 just came out the other day BTW. So, dont know if you still want the 8.04 ISO Nero will make an ISO and burn a CD from an ISO Most ISO's are bootable (like XP cd's), either in Windows, or when you do a clean install. Otherwise you wouldnt be able to do clean installs |

Do I have to do anything else to get it started?. |

| 685681 | 2008-07-06 04:04:00 | Well if you copied the ISO (as is), to the cd, then no An ISO needs to be burned (theres files in it). So, it burns whats in it to a cd. Did u double click on this ISO, if Nero is installed?? It should take you to the ISO screen, all u have to do is click on burn. Once, it finishes, reboot change the bootdisk to the cd, and it should boot If you dont select the cd to boot from, it will boot into XP |

| 685682 | 2008-07-06 04:27:00 | You can check you have burnt the CD as an image by using Windows Explorer to view the contents of the CD. If you can only see a single file (the iso file name) instead of several folders and files, then you haven't burnt it correctly. Once you have confirmed the CD is in the correct format, then make sure the BIOS boots from the CD drive before the hard drive. You will need to go into the BIOS to do this and look for something called "boot order" or similar. Eg 1st boot device: CD/DVD optical device 2nd boot device: hard drive All going well if you start the PC up with the CD in the drive you should see a prompt asking if you wish to boot from the CD or start Windows normally. |
