685655 2008-07-06 01:58:00 Starting PC this morning and got error Case fan not working,service pc etc.Opened case and fan not running, so purchased new fan same error on startup.It is a HP Paviliona6240a,no other problems.Can take it in to get fixed but like to try to fix myself first.Any ideas?

685656 2008-07-06 03:06:00 Which fan exactly? One plugged into the MB? Its not strictly necessary, you could connect it to a molex cable with one of those adapters. pctek (84)

Are you sure its not the CPU fan (mounted at the back of the case at the end of a duct from the cpu)?

685659 2008-07-07 05:32:00 Does the new fan have two wires, and the old one three? If so, you can't get a speed signal from the fan, so you will get that error message. Graham L (2)
