Pertaining to the habitual causing of fights or the stirring up of disputes and quarrels . Often (but not solely) applied to the activities of lawyers who generate or prolong unnecessary litigation . (Sorry Winston, nothing personal) .

In maritime law, barratry or barratrous behaviour is the act of a vessel's captain or crew knowingly endangering the vessel's cargo and/or the vessel itself .

Many thanks to my little sis Susan for looking after WFTWE and Monday Laughs while I was off on business/R & R . ;)

In answer to Greg's question: "Do I come out with these words straight outta my head?"

Originally I did, back in the Candy days and for some time afterwards, but sadly no, not always any more . Some still pop up unbidden from the murky mists of my mind, but I ran out of enough words suitable for all occasions many moons ago so more often than not I now research to suit the events of the day (or week) .

Do I subscribe to a Word of the Day newsletter type thing?

No, I research each WFTWE individually and draw from a number of sources, the biggest challenge being finding something topical, but really obscure . If I can't do topical, I just do obscure . :D
