423179 2006-01-22 11:30:00 i got one LCD from the laptop which model is SAMSUNG LT121SS-105, and i dont wanna waste the LCD, because it is running very well, so i have an idea which is can i change this LCD to the normal mornitor with the VGA plug? u guys know how to do it? plz let me know, thanks a lot heirenseng (9668)
423180 2006-01-22 11:39:00 no, very few laptop LCDs can be connected to VGA.

LCDs use a digital singal , VGA is an analog signal.
adding the bit to convert VGA to something the LCD can use would cost more than the LCD.

you might have some luck getting it connected to a DVI signal because thats digital.

423181 2006-01-22 21:54:00 I don't follow that advice Rob? If I want to run a standard VGA or SVGA monitor from my laptop I just plug it in to the monitor port and away she goes. If I don't want the LCD screen operating I just switch it off with the relevant utility.

Maybe heirenseng could clarify exactly what he/she is wanting to do.

Cheers

423182 2006-01-22 22:00:00 I think the question refers to the other way round, ie running the LCD screen on a laptop from a VGA connector on another computer. Terry Porritt (14)

423184 2006-01-23 06:57:00 Oddly enough I agree with Cicero here. He has the screen from a Samsung laptop, that he wants to use as a stand-alone LCD.

Advice from me is that he should forget it.

Most LCD's have the interface partially embedded in the motherboard, it's proprietary and unlikely to be able to be converted into a standard DVI or VGA without a one-off interface being built which is likely to cost much more than a new stand-alone LCD display. Or two.
