424041 2006-01-26 08:14:00 My mate the privatiser is originally from the Czech Republic (well, it was Czechoslovakia then) and he said (and he was there at the time) that when the Communist regime fell the head honchos of the the state enterprises simply took ownership of the enterprises without anything like a mandate because they were corrupt self-interestred individuals who saw a good thing when it landed in their lap. The issue is neither communist nor capitalist win001. Communisim is not the opposite of capitalism, just self-interest wth yet another self-serving ideology. And while every criticism of the excessess of capitalism is called communist there is no hope for any of us. mark c (247)

424043 2006-01-26 08:42:00 My pal the cynical self-interested privatiser simply calls it 'candy'. Whether or not this is the slang/shorthand in the industry I don't know.

Haha come to think of it the expression 'like taking candy fom babies' was my choice. It's really giving candy to babies. Tsk

Not good for babies.

What springs to mind is the shortage of skills because of short term goals and cheese pairings; scientists:- no career structure, short term funding, no funding=redundancy; nurses, cut to the bone, overworked, over stressed, miserable pay, same for junior doctors; apprenticeships, what's that word mean? I see no apprentices, anyone seen an apprentice around in recent years?
