423617 2006-01-24 03:19:00 It's just not the same when a woman waves a big nozzle around either :DI remember getting into conversation with a female attendant who like me was also into overpowered holdens... her car was smaller, but her engine was bigger than mine.. she was cool..

I think chicks who drive trucks are sexy too, i'd gladly let a woman drive mine :D .......

423618 2006-01-24 03:38:00 I've rebuilt an old Alfa Romeo virtually from the ground up, but I'd be completely lost when it comes to modern engines. Maybe I could change the brake pads and give it a minor service. But that's about it! :(I replaced a section of wiring in my truck that was frayed and burnt out, only to find out the hard way that it ran the faulty glow plug circuit that was a dead short owing to the buss bar touching the engine block. That mistake produced much smoke, and cost me the back half of the wiring loom. It took about 3 hours for me to completly rewire the back using cable grabbed from stripping old mains extension cords.

If Esmarelda was a late model truck rather than 21years old, i probably would have been looking at a very expensive repair indeed, and certainly one well outside my skill base.

423620 2006-01-24 06:36:00 yeah you get that when you bypass the FUSE !I wish there had have been one. There definatly will be one before i power up a replacement of that circuit again, but seeing the engine is happy to start without glowplugs, no hurry there. personthingy (1670)

423622 2006-01-24 07:22:00 no fuse on the glow circuit.......it must be BRITISH ! ! LOL Only if "isuzu" is an British company........

seriously what dumb manafacture would leave the fuse out ?Yeah i was surprised.. the front half of the loom is protected by 2 rows of fuses, but the seperate wiring that went directly to the back for the gloweys didn't bother with such detail.....

423623 2006-01-24 10:19:00 I went to night school to learn about looking after your car with basic maintenance. We covered changing oil, filters, fuses, spark plugs (and timings), tyres, draining radiators, checking fluid levels etc. However, I am still very happy to pay a mechanic to the service the car. :p Jen (38)

Once apon a time I used to own a Morris Minor and could do a valve grind, change spark plugs with correct gaps, change oil, change and rotate tyres etc.

Can't do that on the car I have now.

It's in the form of a fuseable link that is incorporated into the buss.

It blows at about 300 amps...and will smoke mightily up to that point plus or minus about 20 amps.

423626 2006-01-24 19:50:00 well i've rebuilt a few engines and have in the past done most of the work required on my vehicles, pulling axles, replacing bearings, brakes, wiring, etc etc......i'm less inclined to do that now as I can afford to be a bit lazier also I'm not that into damaging my digits ! been ther done that ...ouchy..

i'ts an interesting and satisfying exercise to pull a motor out of a car all by yourself then dismantle it then rebuild it, (carefully). It makes ya proud when you fire it up and you can say 'I did that!'

case of practicality really had to do it anyway couldn't afford mechanic rates back then.

I once re-configured a ford anglia so that I could stuff a 2litre V4 into it that was a lot of work and boy did it run fast after that ! had to modify the clutch actuating arm rocker and also the clutch plate so that the ford corsair bellhousing would bolt to the anglia gearbox and the clutch would work.....very interesting really.
