685718 2008-07-10 04:59:00 OK, I just transferred a 982 mb file to a new folder and all went well. And I'm using 5.5 gb of a 19gb drive. My computers actually running good except for the scandisk thing and my Windows startup security window disappearing. But if I do opt for having a new drive installed and cloned, what kind should I get? I don't want to get ripped off because its obvious I have no clue, lol. I have a HP Pavilion with 320 mb of memory and 667 MHz Intel Celeron processor. You guys are really great. stephan08611 (10225)
685719 2008-07-10 05:14:00 If your getting a HDD, get a Seagate. Is it worth it though? Your PC would be worth less than the new HDD!

80GB is the smallest you can get, don't pay more than $100 for it.

A 160GB - don't pay more then $115

250GB - Don't pay more than $140

500GB is the sweet spot in $ per GB at the moment, but I doubt you'd want one that big. :p

685720 2008-07-10 05:14:00 The smallest drive you can now buy for IDE is probably 80Gb, for ease of mind, depending on what you have on your PC, I would buy new drive and clone the old to the new and then swap the old master to become old slave and new drive to master.

After the drive is cloned, you should be able to just boot up, then wipe the old drive and use as storage......

A 667mhz Celeron is getting old though....the new drive will probably cost more than the computer is worth.....

685721 2008-07-12 15:34:00 I was just about to reformat in a last ditch effort to fix my computer when I stumbled across 2 files left behind from Limewire called Incomplete which holds the incomplete downloads until Limewire is started again. Even if you cancel a download, the incomplete file remains and you have to delete them manually so there was a bunch of junk in there.I always suspected Limewire had something to do with my issues. I deleted them and tried Scandisk again but this time ran Standard instead of Thorough and unticked Automatically Fix Errors. It ran fine and the few errors it found, I fixed manually. Then I tried it in Thorough/ Automatically Fix Errors and that ran fine followd by a defrag in which I saw no bad clusters. My computers running extremely well. I did read somewhere awhile back that you could download things that your virus program can't pick up because they aren't really viruses and I think thats what happened. I want to thank you guys for all your time and advice. stephan08611 (10225)
