423647 2007-07-25 06:56:00 Bonus Bond says it can only sell Bonus Bonds to NZ residents
Can former residents of NZ who hold Bonus Bonds till be eligible to claim th eprize even though they not living in NZ?

If they have sold Bonus Bond to you yet you dont live in NZ and IF you win a major prize down the future..can they withhold the prizemoney since you dont live in NZ.

Theres nothing in the prospectus o website that says specifically about not paying out if you are non resident. All it says they cant sell it to overseas resident but nothing about paying out the prize if you hold bonus bonds and are overseas residents. Any opinions

423648 2007-07-25 07:23:00 You would do better putting your money in a fast saver account in the bank at 6% interest and having it compound (added to) each month so that the total amount continues to grow.
My wife and I do that with our savings as well as having a few dollars in other places for long term (10yr+ savings).

i already do that but Bonus Bonds is like Lotto to me...I just invest a thousand dollars and if i win someday then its great and if i dont then i dont care cause at least that money is just sitting there and wont be lost (well i know there are chances but low)

423650 2007-07-25 20:52:00 We have had Bonus bonds since they first began. Our grandparents used to give them to us for xmas. Over the past 10-15 years we would get a win every month on average, normally $20-100 but our biggest was a few years ago at $15,000 which was nice. We cashed them all in at one stage and repirchased them getting consecutive numbers although I am not sure if that helps win or not. We probably have about $25,000 tied up in bonus bonds by now.

Whether good return or not it is something we can cash in easily enough if we ever need to.

423652 2007-07-26 02:31:00 Personally I stick with some money in the bank on Fast saver that you wont loose out on, some money on a managed share fund and some money on some well researched shares - other than Telecom- probably something like $200 or $300 on Rakon or what ever you can afford and for those who can afford it, some money on a property investment. winmacguy (3367)

But you are losing your money to inflation, which is about 3% a year, if you don't win anything.

Bonus Bonds is just a tiny slice in my set of investment portfolios..infact its not really an investment in a sense but i prefer it then playing a lucky dip every weekend and wasting that 20 bucks (except when i win 1st Div)

I prefer index funds as a safe and long term investment compared to managed index funds ( high expense ratio, albeit higher returns) and Bonds as even safer bet.

And of course some stocks in large cap companies and technology sector.

If you think AMD will rocket back to No 1 place with its new upcoming chips and be ble to sustain its leadership in the next 2-3 years...now might be a good time to buy it at $15.50/share (its down since 52 week high of $27/share) but if you think Intel will bury AMD with its possible 40Gbps optical chips and sky rockets its market share and ultimately its profits then get Intel @ $24.50 per share

I would probably be inclined to do a little bit more research than that before I would consider buying shares in either company regardless of the initial share price.
I personally would look at what makes people buy one chip over the other

The performance of both chips

The road map ahead for each company as well as some of their history

Who are the customers of each company and what are their strategies

Then look at making a decision. This would be the process that I would apply before investing in a company.

Sometimes depending on how you plan on trading shares or stocks, buying stocks in a company that has been fairly flat for a number of years may only bring average returns.
