2008-07-06 04:40:00 | Running Windows ME [I know, I know] my last scandisk was 3 weeks ago and all went well. I tried it again and as soon as it hits files it freezes and so does my computer. I tried it in SAFE mode, same thing. BELARC Advisor's SMART reading is healthy. I also used a WD diagnostics scan and got a clean bill of health. I've tried evrything I could find in Google and nothing works. Closed all programs, shut off Panda Virus and shut off Spywareblaster, got rid of screen saver and evrything else I read.I HAVE been hitting Limewire a lot in the past 3 weeks but got rid of all the corrupted junk it downloaded. Also, my Windows Security logon window disappeared. Any suggestions? Thanx in advance | stephan08611 (10225) | |

2008-07-07 03:15:00 | Heres my Hijackthis log. Thanks for taking the time, but I think I may have screwed up royally doing everything I read about, deleting PCHEALTH folder, deleting APPLOG etc.So if this fails my next question is if I Reformat, since Windows no longer supports ME, will I be able to do the updates I'll surely need? The reason I got rid of PCHEALTH was all the file paths were screwed up according to a registry scan. I also downloaded PC Health Optimizer but all I get is 453 errors. I really think its hopeless, lol. Thanks again. | 685710 | 2008-07-07 03:26:00 | Tick these then tick fix checked Close browsers O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file) Uninstall all versions of Java, yours is out of date. Link is in my sig It looks pretty clean to me. How much ram is installed? Updates for Windows ME are probably still around. But you wont get them automatically. You may have to install the updates from the MS site

2008-07-07 17:35:00 | Have 320 mb ram. uninstalled and installed latest Java, which confuses me because I got an alert from Java last week saying an update was available and I downloaded it but it wasn't the current one you gave me. Anyway, now you're going to see what/who you're dealing with here, lol. How do I get to the part where I can 'tick fix' on the item you pointed out? Thanks again. | stephan08611 (10225) | |
2008-07-07 19:31:00 | You need to run Hijack again then tick them | gary67 (56) | |
2008-07-08 16:16:00 | Did what you advised and scandisk still won't work. One last bit of info that may shed some light on my plight before I reformat. The last time I tried to download from Limewire the last 3 downloads wouldn't finish and gave me a 'disk problem' message. Could this have been caused by my using my alloted space for video? Could this be the issue with scandisk? If so, how do I change how much space to allot? Thanks for being so patient with me. | stephan08611 (10225) | |
2008-07-08 21:05:00 | Last 3 downloads didnt finish?!.....you are either running out of disk space or the PC is have trouble writing to the Hard Drive which could mean immanent failure. This would also explain why your scan disk is failing.....get another hard drive NOW, and clone from the old one to save the hassle of re-install! | SolMiester (139) | |
2008-07-09 17:46:00 | Probably an extremely dumb question, but I have to ask it. 1: Don't the 2 clean bills of health from the SMART scans mean anything? 2:Is there any way of determining if the PC is having trouble writing to the drive? and since the downloads wouldnt finish, I HAVE downloaded other things that went well. | stephan08611 (10225) | |
2008-07-10 03:40:00 | Scan disk completed okay then?.....to test the drive, you could do some file copying from one folder to another extra with some big files, watch for slow downs writing to disks etc....sounded to me like a possible drive failure pending, however its hard to tell from here..... You could also try a disk de-frag, thats also good to check if the drive is okay....
