2008-07-10 02:41:00 | Suddenly ZA has blocked my access to the net. I have disabled it and reinstalled WindowsXP firewall and now have access. I would like to use ZA. How do I regain access to the net and still use Zone Alarm? Or should I install some other firewall, and if so which do you recommend. I am on broadband with Xtra which suits me just fine. Many thanks, Pat.

2008-07-10 04:48:00 | Thats what I would have thought Surely better to have slightly lower security setting than to get rid of a new patch that is probably quite important. (especially if it's the patch for the DNS vulnerability) Which is in fact one of the updates in the last couple days

2008-07-10 05:18:00 | Thank you very much Speedy Gonzales for your speedy and helpful advice. I changed the setting from High to Medium in ZA and I now have access to net using ZA. Yes, I did receive an automatic XP update from Microsoft this morning. Do think I should try Comodo instead of ZA. Is it easy to use for I am 86 and slow on the uptake particularly when it comes to computing nous? God bless, Pat.

2008-07-10 05:20:00 | 1.change the zonealarm setting from high to medium 2. go to control panel/add & remove programmes. 3. tick the box saying "show updates". 3. scroll down to Windows XP. Uninstall the latest update (kb951748). 4. restart computer (You should get a message saying so). 5. change zonealarm setting back to high. 6. turn off automatic updates - go to windows update page, click "pick time to install updates", click "more options", click "notify me but don't automatically download or install them". 7. when you shut down your computer you will get a message that gives the option to shut down without installing updates. you need to click on it each time. | paulmc (13942) | |

2008-07-10 06:35:00 | Thanks very much paulmc and bevy 121. I have updated ZA and I am a happy chappie again. Why do these companies hate each other so much and just waste my time. It's great to have all you good people trying to keep me from going round the twist. God bless, Pat.
