687087 2008-07-09 20:02:00 I understand the danger of WAN having privileges in file sharing, but if there's LAN or internal puter-to-puter in my own system file sharing privileges, is that also an open door to problems from outside of my own system?

WinXP-Pro on everything on this LAN via a router and they are currently the only puters allowed on the internet.

Does this also apply to printer and scanner sharing on the same internal network?

687088 2008-07-09 22:36:00 If I'm reading your question correctly, your concern is people being able to access shared folders on your LAN Pc from external(internet)? kersonan (13264)
687089 2008-07-09 22:43:00 Technically speaking IF the PC's that have file sharing on the LAN are NOT connected to the Internet in any way then no, outside sources can not get in, BUT if any one of the PC's that are on the LAN does have Internet access, and some one hacked into that PC, then yes they can see shared files over a LAN. Hence the need for good security - and NEVER share the whole C: drive. wainuitech (129)
