686663 2008-07-09 01:59:00 That depends entirely on what you want to do!!

You are copying DVDs, making ISOs...?

686664 2008-07-09 02:01:00 copying dvds, but the encoding takes to long with shrink mark1978 (13845)
686665 2008-07-09 02:19:00 Nothing you can do about encoding time other than to get a faster PC, or (if your CPU supports it) install a 64bit OS and use a 64bit encoder, which may be more hassle than it's worth. Erayd (23)
686666 2008-07-09 02:22:00 I know it never used to be that slow, probably half an hour...but now it took 1 hour... mark1978 (13845)
686667 2008-07-09 02:44:00 You must have a very slow computer if it took an hour.

Analysing and encoding a full DVD Double Layer on mine took a total of 23 Minutes. Tested on CD1 or 2 of a DVD set I purchased in Aussie of "All the Rivers Run" Mini Series

686668 2008-07-09 02:45:00 Depends on how big the DVD is on how long it takes.

686669 2008-07-09 03:01:00 I guess you have a few deciding factors. DVD speed, SATA/IDE, CPU, HDD Speeds etc etc etc.

This DVD set to no compression was 7,950Mb and set to that took 18 minutes to encode to HDD under XP.

No compression = no encoding, it's just a direct copy. The encoding load comes when you're trying to shrink it, and it has to re-encode the entire video stream.
