686595 2008-07-08 22:54:00 Which update are you talking about??

951748 ??

If this is what youre talking about, I dont think thats the prob. I've installed this and I'm here

Its probably ZA screwing up

686596 2008-07-09 03:41:00 Yep, I have seen 4 machines with this problem . The two updates are KB951978 and KB951748 . Not sure which actually causes the problem . Be certain, if you are responsible for XP machines running ZA you will encounter this problem .

So far I fixed 3 with system restores . One wasn't creating restore points (another story - don't know why as restore points were enabled) so I had to uninstall ZA to get it to work .

Early versions of ZA don't seem to have this problem .

686597 2008-07-09 03:54:00 Sounds like a ZA prob (www.dslreports.com)

More info here (forum.zonelabs.org)

I wondered about whether the problem would re-occur, too. My own one still shows these two updates in the history after the restore so maybe there will be no more hassles??

686600 2008-07-09 06:04:00 How do I stop these dam things downloading. I have unticked them but when I close the download window they remain ticked and will be downloaded? Pato (2463)
686601 2008-07-09 06:10:00 Zone Alarm is the problem - had about a dozen calls today all with the same problem - remove ZA and every things back to normal.

Pato - Regarding the windows updates have you gone into the control Panel / Automatic updates, and selected " Turn off Automatic updates".

I have "Notify me but don't auto download or install them" selected.
After unticking them I get message that only those selected will be downloaded but when I again go into the "Shield" in the task bar and click on that again the dam downloads are re-ticked and I am a bit worried that they will install when I closedown the PC.
