My 2 year old PC with a foxconn 955x7aa motherboard has decided not to boot up, when I turn it on, nothing comes up on the screen (as if it isn't even connected) and all I get is a series of loud digital beeps lasting about 4 seconds on and 4 seconds off. I can't quite determine exactly where the beep is coming from but I think possibly from the video card

Can't imagine there is much I can do to resurrect it from this one but on the off chance this may ring a bell with someone, I though I would ask.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

686516 2008-07-08 06:25:00 Any pattern to the beeps before they repeat? Eg, 2 short, 2 long or 4 short beeps?

The BIOS will have a beep pattern that can be used in diagnosing hardware issues that are stopping the computer completing its POST (Power On Self Test).

686519 2008-07-08 07:28:00 Bit of brain fade at this time of night - I need food :waughh: But that's either memory or graphic Card not reading, with the PC tuned off, remove the side of the case, unplug the monitor lead from the graphic card, unscrew and remove the graphic Card, Blow out any dust / dirt from the PCI Slot, plug the card back in and reattach the monitor - fire up the computer and see if you still get the beeps - is so then turn it off and repeat for the RAM. wainuitech (129)

686521 2008-07-08 22:41:00 Had a similar problem recently. Took the cmos battery out, cleaned the contacts & cured the problem. Driftwood (5551)
686522 2008-07-09 01:55:00 Hey all, managed to get it all going again, think it was dust on the RAM. In the end I went through and cleaned everything I could, well overdue.

Thanks again for advice and bringing my poor old PC back from the brink
