426512 2006-02-04 00:51:00 Excellent idea, Graham.

I get rather annoyed when my kidlets buy bottled water but they say it is the bottle they are wanting. I guess I can't begrudge that too much since the bottle then gets refilled with plain tap water and thrashed to death before the next purchase.

At least they have the sense to buy them from the cheapest outlet possible, wherever that is.

Not only that, but dentists have a lot to gain by fluoridation . Dental fluorosis, which is caused by fluoridation, can lead to teeth mottling . Advanced fluorosis can turn teeth into black stumps (do a google search for some pics - it doesn't look good) . The end result is expensive cosmetic dental surgery at the mercy of . . . you guessed it . . . dentists .
I know I'm being cynical here, but there's an awful lot of money changing hands in the dental industry . I'm certainly not saying dentists are corrupt and just want your money and don't care about our health, but one has to look at the bigger picture to understand the motives of the industry as a whole .

One may pose the question "Why would so many health organizations be promoting fluoridation if it were not "safe and effective?"

A possible explanation can be found here: . fluoridedebate . com/censorship . html" target="_blank">www . fluoridedebate . com

The Washington Bureau editor of AGD Impact, the monthly publication of the Academy of General Dentistry, wrote in 1999 that "supporters of fluoridation have had an unwillingness to release any information that would cast fluorides in a negative light," and that organized dentistry "has lost its objectivity — the ability to consider varying viewpoints together with scientific data to reach a sensible conclusion . "

According to Section 20 of the American Dental Association Code of Ethics, "Dentists' non-participation (in fluoridation promotion) is overt neglect of professional responsibility . " In recent years, several dentists who have testified on the anti-fluoridation side have been reprimanded by their state dental officers .

426514 2006-02-04 05:34:00 Why not add fluoride to the water in those silly bottles? That would let the suppliers say it's "healthy, and medicinal". Then pharmacies
should sell it -- the markup is already at about chemists' level. I wonder at people buying tap water at more than the price of petrol. (Especially when they buy this water at petrol stations ;).

Why don't they just drink "V".
Allegedly, the drink contains 20 times the level of fluoride allowed in water supplies, and doesn't have to be labelled.
I can just see drinks dispensers in the dentists' waiting room on my next visit jammed full of cavity-fighting energy drinks!

426515 2006-02-04 08:14:00 My kids' teeth are terrible. We don't eat sugary stuff, have plenty of fruit etc. I am sure it's the lack of fluoride in the water here, I really am.

We are on flouridated supply and my son (16) and daughter (17) have never required any dental work. They both have a full set of unblemished teeth.

My wife and I, now that's a different matter, though neither of us have required fillings since flouridation began.

For me that's fairly convincing evidence.

Cheers

:)

I grew up drinking tap water that was not fluoridated. Until I moved to Hamilton a couple of years ago, I had never drunk fluoridated tap water.

I have a good set of teeth, no fillings, no cavities, no problems whatsoever at 29 years of age.

I guess I could say, "for me that's fairly convincing evidence that fluoridation of my drinking water is totally unnecessary."

426517 2006-02-04 22:30:00 I worked for 13 years with a person who owned the shop . . . he was of "X" religion (a very large religion, not some fly-by-night outfit) that says many negative things about fluoride in the water . He asked me some questions I cannot yet answer to satisfaction . I will ask them of you to see if there's any ideas that youse guys can come up with .

1) Why did Adolph Hitler, immediately after assuming chancellor of Germany, initiate the fluoridation of the drinking water?

2) Why do governments hate dentists by cutting dental caries and decay to a minimum?

3) Who's making money on the fluoride in the water?

4) Is there any real effect from using fluoride?

Now, to the anecdotal things:

A) Fluoride is supposed to be a mind-altering drug that makes people susceptable to suggestion . What a great thing for a government to use!

B) Over-dosing of fluoride destroys calcium uptake in digestion and harms the osteoclasts that repair the bone matrix . Not a good thing, but acceptable if you are complacent with A above .

C) Staining and spotting of the teeth happens in large doses of fluoride .

If you take 1 & 2 above and align them up with statement A below . . it makes some sense .

If you take B & C below, then there's indeed a price to pay for this intrusion .

426518 2006-02-04 23:01:00 Well I’m dead against it for the following reasons.

1: It’s mass medication, and we don’t need it.

2: First it will be fluoride and then what? (Bromide or Viagra?) :D

3: For those who wish to take it, it is readily available to fulfil their needs.

4: The problem is purely cosmetic and tooth decay is not a terminal illness.

5: Dentures are fine and serve the purpose as well as natural teeth and are a whole lot cheaper to run.

6: The whole matter gets down to the dental health professionals wanting people to maintain their teeth for as long as possible so they can keep extorting money from them.

Ahhhh, now I feel better. :)

. . . to dump down the population of course

i still remember watching a One News Pro-Fluoride Propaganda piece one night where they showed a guy putting Fluoride into some towns water supply & he had a ‘suit’ on, breathing mask etc . The best part was the big red warning sticker telling you it was toxic . guess its not that safe after all?

Er, water will kill you as well if you take too much as well.
Something called dilution makes substances that are toxic in concentrated form, not toxic....
