Takes forever to install all the relevant patches and mods required to lan with my mates so i just leave them installed. Recently resurected Diablo II LOD but starting to get bored of that, at this rate i'll never beat Act 5 :(. Also have NFS:MW installed but also starting to get bored of that, just a tad repeatitive. Keen to get a copy of X3: Reunion, huge fan of freelancer, hoping it can qwell my desire for a freelancer sequel. Pete O'Neil (6584)
425784 2006-02-01 06:42:00 Thanks Metla. Yeah, being based on reality, I wouldnt have a clue :( Getting there though, I just wish I had a map that I could see while driving, so I know when to get ready for the big corners. Does this game have a handbreak?

Also, I get this horrible sound on corners. Doesn't really sound like tires screeching, so I am wondering if it is the bottom of my car?

425785 2006-02-01 08:20:00 Thats tire scrub, probally caused by pushing to hard through teh corners, the rear wheels are trying to push teh car straight ahead, and your trying to hold the car on your line by heavy handed steering. The audio is a tool, to give you an indication of how you are taking a corner. You will find that you are ripping your tires to shreds and if tire wear in enabled you wont have much rubber left after a few laps.

Probally something I should have mentioned is to start slow, just at cruising speed, drive 6 or 7 laps, then when you have an idea of how the corners feed into each other start gradually doing certain sections at a faster speed, the more laps you do in this way the faster you will get on that track.

and drop your ffb down to about 50 to 60 percent.

I am liking it a lot. My Dad likes it also, and he never usually can be bothered with games, so it looks like a winner.

425787 2006-02-01 09:54:00 From I was reading just the other day that maybe canned, seems after 3 years they don't have a game, The company who put up the money based on early tech showcases have put their hand in, fired half the crew and told those that remain they have a few months to deliver or they take the project off them entirely.

Shocking... But it has been a very long time since I was watching trailers for it.

I read something about it on GPNZ about the beta just being released - maybe they just needed a kick up the *ss?

425788 2006-02-01 10:07:00 Well that must be sad news. I have seen the demo trailers and it is good but to hear that they cant deliver the game was just bloody sad! Maybe money is not going good for it to be finalized....or those developers are just lost on ideas to finish the game... Mr Wetzyl (362)

Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl reaches beta stage
Posted by M @ 11:13 p . m . NZDT

Long-awaited PC thriller Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl is at the stage of beta approval and is being actively developed in close cooperation with the games publisher, said developer GSC Game World this week .

In an effort to stifle Internet rumours, GSC Game World says the development team has undergone certain reductions, particularly in the art section, due to all the graphics-related works being almost complete (out of 40 people, 5 were dismissed) . GSC Game World says none of the leads, programmers or testers will be reduced at any time .

GSC also said none of the designers gone has the rights to the game's engine, and that all the Stalker technologies, including the X-Ray engine and S . T . A . L . K . E . R . -2 engine, belong to the company .

Meh I wouldn't get too sad - I'm sure it will be finished - it will just take a while . . .

HL2 took a while didn't it? :) :badpc:

Sounds good, Are you noticing much difference in how the FFB works compared to games like Flatout?

Just a couple more thngs about rFactor.

It takes at least a lap for your tires to warm up, when they do you will have far better traction and cornering ability.

Before a race you have the ability to setup your car, this is split into 2 types, basic and so complicated that Terry, Godfather and Graham would have weld their brains into one to figure it out, anyhow, ignoring the complicated settings....Under basic you have 4 sliders, set them up to suit but the most important one is the suspension, the scale goes from soft to hard, On softer settings your car will handle hitting and driving over curbs better but you wont be able to catch slides, the harder you set it the faster the car responds and you will find your able to catch teh back end as it breaks free.

The softer settings "feels" easier at first but you lose to much to make it worthwhile.....

425792 2006-02-01 19:02:00 Ok, suspension and tire tip is good.

My idea of racing is to start at the start/finish line in a grid with the other cars, and then go when the light turns green. I am not sure how rFactor works. I can do a race (weekend race, whatever that is), and no matter how far ahead the other guys I am, I still seem to be last.

I can drive around a track now, so will try driving on veteran tonight. I think I need to read some racing rules as well.
